Where do people get such a sense of entitlement?

So, sometimes I can't sleep. This morning was one of those times. So I am flipping through the channels and end up on MTV. Forgive me.

There is this video where the girl singer (some gal named Kelly Clark) trashed the apartment of her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend.

I know it is just a dumb video, but a number of times I have seen people trashing their ex-lovers stuff just because they are mad/sad/hurt. It even happened to me once.

I don't understand why someone thinks that just because one's feelings are hurt one has license to wreck someone's stuff. (Much less stalk/hurt physically the other person). Where these people get the narcissism to think that they may never be hurt or else there are great consequences is beyond me.
