Redneck divorce...
Dear Cooter,

Me an Sue Ellen have divorced.
The judge gave her the double wide
and the pickup.

So, like the the court order said,
I delivered the truck before 2 O'clock
yesterday afternoon! I took a picture
fer proof that I delivered it...
Wanted to make sure she found it when
she got home!!!

How's your day going? See ya later.

Your Buddy,
Bubba

1. What do a hurricane, a tornado, and a redneck divorce have in common?
No matter what....somebody's gonna lose a trailer.

2. LOL! Oh, yeah!
I lost a trailer on eight lots once, and a house and barn on seven acres the next time. The last time it cost me, but I kept the house! :)

Where's all the indignant responses to this post? There was another thread about white trash, and that was considered extremely offensive to a lot of people here. This oneshows someone's property damaged, people could have been hurt, and there are more jokes about rednecks. So, where's the righteous indignation?

I don't get it. What's the difference? The last post in the otherthread was a nasty personal dig towards the original poster. I wonder if the reasonfor the indignation was personal towards that person and not solely due to the subject of the post, as some had said in the thread. When I read that thread I thought that couldn't be the case, Duers are better than that.

Was I wrong?

9. I can only speak for myself... I posted on that thread in support
of someone else who was offended. Perhaps there were no responses because this thread was in the middle of the night? I personally have nothing against the poster or anyone else on that thread.

Yes, this thread borderlines on offensive also... the same way the other did. If someone on the thread had been offended by it, I would probably post in support of their feelings. The only reason I'm posting on this thread is because of your post which insinuates that the other example was personal... it was not.

33. I was reacting to several peoples responses, actually.
I've had every redneck, trailer trash, and Texan joke in the galaxy directed at me, and I usually laugh my ass off.

34. And I would admit to finding some of them in certain circumstances
humorous... and half my family would probably qualify as all those things. As another poster put it.... "white trash" is more inflammatory and racist and classist a term and more offensive. Your thread, personally, doesn't offend me at all (though I'm sure some people might be)... the other went slightly over the top I think...

But hey... this is not one of my big battles... so I'm not gonna waste much energy on it. :)

16. Because being a redneck isn't an accident of genetics,
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 10:29 AM by Rabrrrrrr
like race is, or an accident of one's financial status. There are rich rednecks, and poor rednecks. Southern and northern.

Being a redneck is a choice - like being an intellectual or a doctor or a parent.

And hence, it's open to ridicule and critique.

Whereas "white trash" is a racist and a classist moniker.

17. I Believe The Terms Are Synonomous, Rabrrrrrr
When's the last time you saw an Asian redneck? Or a Hispanic one?

Both terms are exclusively used in reference to a subset of the white population. And being a redneck or white trash is NOT necessarily a choice - a lot has to do with upbringing and the circumstances under which a person comes into this world.

38. No, it's a choice. A person's worldview is always a choice.
Edited on Sat Jan-29-05 12:42 PM by Rabrrrrrr
No matter how they were brought up, the choice is always there to be something else, or to choose to stay how you are. Doesn't matter how poor or how rich you are, or you were raised - the choice is always there.

To say there is no choice is a very hopeless statement. I'm not saying they can just choose to be rich, or choose to be a CEO, or obviously impossible things like that. But all people can choose - and DO choose - how they react to the world.

Am I saying all rednecks are evil and need to change? No, I'm not. But I *AM* saying that they have chosen their worldview, and thus it is okay to critique it, even to ridicule the sillier parts of it, just like I would anyone else.

Whereas one cannot, and should not, ridicule a black person for being black. Or a woman for being a woman. Or a tall guy for being a tall guy. Those attributes do not involve choice.

Though give genetic engineering and surgery another decade of advancement, and they might very well be choices.
