I tiny problem with Firefox. Help!
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 12:19 PM by brainshrub
I switched to Firefox last week, and I love it! My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

I have one teeny-tiny problem, but it's driving me bonkers: Animated gifs don't work for me. I've Googled the question and even gone to the Firefox site, but I can't find the answer to theis problem.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Here is an example of an animated gif that does not work for me:

Thanks in advance.

ON EDIT: I fixed it! Zone Alarm was the problem.

Here's how to fix it: Open ZoneAlarm and go to Privacy's Main Tab. --> In the Ad-Blocking section, click the "custom" button. --> In the Custom Privacy Settings window, select the Ad Blocking Tab. --> In the Ads to Block section, uncheck where it says "animation." --> Click "OK" on the Custom Privacy Settings window and put ZoneAlarm back into the taskbar.

When you go back to the webpage, hit F5. From now on, your animated gifs should work.

2. They work for me on Firefox 1.0 for Mac OS X
I'm pretty sure they use the same rendering engine on all the platforms. Very odd.

4. Using Firefox Now - The Animated Gif Is Working Just Fine For Me
This does not appear to be a Fierfox problem.

8. I use FF and these used to work for me. Then I installed
ZoneAlarm and it will not let any of the animated gifs run. The first poster was right...this is a GOOD thing! You probably have some virus software or a firewall that in connection with FF, won't let it run.

You get used to it after a few days.

5. Download appropriate program?
When I first started using FF and went to download something I (it) didn't yet have the proper program for it would ask me if I wanted to download the program. Now I've gotten most of the necessary programs and have no problem.

7. But what would that program be?
It's not like I don't see an image... I just don't see the animation. It's frozen.

10. That's weird.
When I'd click on a gif or whatever I'd get a popup box that said "To view this <whatever> you need FLASH. Do you want to download FLASH now?"
I'd click on "yes" and that was it.
Sorry I can't be more help.

I have said this before and I'll say it again: Sometimes, you need to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Your settings will come back as they were, and if it's a problem not to do with your settings, they generally go away.

Also download the installer to your desktop first and then install, do NOT install directly from online. That's what I've been told.

Good luck! You'll love it once you get this prob ironed out...

16. oh all the animated stuff works
I have had MANY problems with ZA, but blocking animation was not one of them. I'm talkin BSOD and .dll corruption and no support under the guise of support even though I paid for my ZA. Little shit like that. :)

it has to do with your cache-or history, page storage.

Again, just a semi-uneducated-no make that mostly uneducated guess...

19. I think it's because of the DU pop-ups.
I've told my computer to be very strict against sites that offer pop-ups. Rather than change those rules, I'll just deal with not getting to see animated gifs on DU.

20. you can make exceptions to the rule in the Firefox browser
I didn't except DU though; I get messages that FF blocked a Pop up from this site, yet I have animation. popups and animation are two different things. try clearing your cache and maybe your history...

21. my husband made me switch to Mozilla Firefox
and I haven't had a problem with animated gifs, but when I go to newsites and want to see video, it won't play them. I never had that problem with Internet Explorer, but this Firefox thing just won't play videos. I don't know how to get it fixed.
