Latest terrorist group on 24: The Heritage Foundation
Yeah, that's right.

Whacked-out Christian fundies figure in the latest plot of this Fox-TV action drama.

Stay tuned for next week!

2. I won't ruin the ending for you
I will tell you this:

You know that teenage boy whose parents are terrorists?

It turns out his father ordered the execution of his own son.

His mom thinks it was their boss that gave the order.

Oh, and she was very upset that they would kill her own flesh and blood, yet she had no problem murdering her son's innocent girlfriend and then looking the girl's mother in the eye and saying they hadn't seen her.

Oh, and speaking of Family Values, the American Secretary of Defense was rescued, and he authorized the torture of his own son to extract information.

Interesting point though: The son thinks he has information he was holding-out from the feds, but it's personal and none of their business. And he says that since they tortured him, he's even more sure that "these people can not be trusted."

I'm going to go back and watch the tape and see what the exact connection was to The Herritage Foundation.

3. There was a piece on VH1 about this show...
I can't remember the name of the VH1 show -- a half-hour show that covered television/entertainment events of the week. American Idol, Condi vs. Boxer, the inauguration, etc. was all mentioned in addition to 24, which was trashed as a show that affirmed new and old stereotypes about Arab Americans, Black women, etc. etc.

4. The Heritage foundation's ties to terrorism on FOX drama series 24
Edited on Tue Jan-25-05 08:19 AM by IanDB1
OK, I just replayed the end of last night's episode.

The terrorists blew-up a train to steal a briefcase that was being carried by a defense contractor.

Meanwhile, the terrorists also took The Secretary of Defense hostage.

The man who murdered the defense contractor brought the briefcase to the site where the terrorists were holding the Secty of Defense.

The Secretary's daughter / assistant recognized the man who brought the briefcase. The man said, "She knows who I am. We're going to have to kill her." The other terrorists tell him they were planning to kill her anyway.

After she's rescued, the assistant tells Jack Bauer that she remembers where she'd seen the terrorist with the briefcase.

She'd seen him at a Heritage Foundation fundraiser a couple months ago.

5. A Bit Like "Arlington Road"
They weren't religious nutjobs, just political nutjobs. Became a very secretive, very sinister, and very determined group of radical rightwing anti-gov't types. Seems like the writers of 24 might have remembered that movie.

Backers of Gay Marriage Ban Use Social Security as Cudgel
By DAVID D. KIRKPATRICK and SHERYL GAY STOLBERG
Published: January 25, 2005

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 - A coalition of major conservative Christian groups is threatening to withhold support for President Bush's plans to remake Social Security unless Mr. Bush vigorously champions a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

The move came as Senate Republicans vowed on Monday to reintroduce the proposed amendment, which failed in the Senate last year by a substantial margin. Party leaders, who left it off their list of priorities for the legislative year, said they had no immediate plans to bring it to the floor because they still lacked the votes for passage.

But the coalition that wrote the letter, known as the Arlington Group, is increasingly impatient.

In a confidential letter to Karl Rove, Mr. Bush's top political adviser, the group said it was disappointed with the White House's decision to put Social Security and other economic issues ahead of its paramount interest: opposition to same-sex marriage.

The letter, dated Jan. 18, pointed out that many social conservatives who voted for Mr. Bush because of his stance on social issues lack equivalent enthusiasm for changing the retirement system or other tax issues. And to pass to pass any sweeping changes, members of the group argue, Mr. Bush will need the support of every element of his coalition....

7. Yeah! I Saw That Today on CSPAN
But, it didn't occur to me about Arlington Road until you reminded me. That is synchronicity, isn't it?

8. It's spooky and very telling.
It's as if George W. Bush had a son and named him Damien after seeing The Omen movies.
