Blast from the Past - Popeye and Bluto OJ commmercial
In the midst of the Sponge Bob controversy, it bears remembering that the same people who named Anita Bryant as their spokesperson, eventually released this infamous ad.

Classic cartoon enemy musclemen Popeye and Bluto haven't kissed but they have made up in a new animated U.S. campaign behind Minute Maid orange juice -- where they can be seen riding a two-person bicycle together like carefree lovers.
...
The two play like school children on a swing, a see-saw, bury each other in sand on the beach and get tattoos together that say "Buddies for Life." At the end, they ride a two-person bicycle -- passing usual romantic interest Olive Oyl without a notice. She offers a confused, if not suspicious, look as they pedal away.

1. I remember Steven Colbert interviewing Robert Knight
The head of the media wing of "Concerned Women of America" (why concerned women need a man to speak to the media for them is beyond me). Colbert said, "It's not that we hate homosexuals." And Knight agreed.

And then Colbert said, "It's just that we hate that they turn us on."

The look on Knight's face was priceless.

Also, Colbert repeatedly referred to Popeye and Bluto as "pirate smokers.":D

I think so, too. These folks see "gay" in waaaaay too many things for it not to have come from somewhere inside their own minds and desires in the first place.
