4. As a math type - I agree with the portion of the script you quoted

pain and disappointment is something to avoid -

and you just do not have that problem in math - until you interact with colleagues!

6. I did the EE/physics thing but simplex and Management and programing

and economics and option theory led to "Actuarial" - at various levels of "Actuary" to and including Chief Actuary at a number of insurance companies, and also as the Head of a Fortune 50 US/state/local tax department for 5 years - with work in international and national taxes and investments and options - "financial engineering" they liked to call it - and of late in pensions as we close out the career in non-stress mode! :-)

The only thread that pulls it all together is a knowledge of Statistics - and a desire for money and to prove folks like myself could break the "legacy" barrier! :-)
