Shoe Bow Knot... Which Method Do You Use (Poll)
OK, it's not a true poll (I can't do one since I haven't
contributed money here yet).

Do you tie a:
  1) "square" bow knot (are you SURE?)
  2) "granny" bow knot
  3) other?

Most people learned to tie their shoes when they were very
young, and never give it a thought even if they have had Boy
Scout/Girl Scout/etc knot tying training concerning the proper
way to tie a knot between two strings. Consequently, about as
many people tie a granny bow knot (which tends to come loose)
as tie a square bow knot (which tends to stay tied). Even
those who tie a square bow knot may do so only by chance, they
could have very easily have learned the other and never
thought to examine the knot carefully. (Admission: I realized
my shoe tying was via granny bow knots only after having read
an article about it, even though I was an avid knot enthusiast
from my Boy Scout days).

3. I have no idea
I make a bow, wrap the lace around my thumb and push the lace through to make the other bow.

4. I tie mine by wrapping around
then stuffing through and pulling. I don't know what it's called but my ex-husband used to make 2 loops and tie them. My children learned his way the easiest and they stayed tied better but mine were more flexible. Had more adjust ability.

Link to "granny" knot:

I could not find a link to a "granny" bow knot, but perhaps the above
is enough to see how it would be tied.

7. Mike, a site for you....

I use reverse square bow knots, AFAICT. I'm left handed, so everything ends up a little wonky.

8. Interesting site.
However, I guess the main reason I created this thread (my first) was that there are things (like bow knots) in our lives that we take for granted and never really think about, but which we ought to -- because our conceptions are flawed, if not downright wrong...

9. Thank you for the site
I know now that I tie a shoelace knot. :) Nice to know there are a lot of different ways to tie. I will try others to see if one is better than the other for me.
