So long, America! I hardly knew ye!!

<drink>

on edit: changed subject line to be more compelling to those who love America and are also mourning its passing into 4 dark, awful, horrible, miserable years from which the planet earth and its human inhabitants might not come out of.

1. Just finished my last beer
or I'd join you.

Consider yourself joined in spirit.

3. I have hope.
While watching the inauguration today, so many negative things were said by so many. Perhaps the Republicans are finally waking up.

Said by the people actually incvited to speak at the inaugaration? Or by the media commentators?

10. George Will:
military operation
unworthy
not attractive
banana republic

Someone else said the announcer was reminiscent of the World Wrestling Federation.

Shortly after the speech ended, people in the U.K. had asked if "freedom" meant the prisoners in Guantanamo would be released. They also complained about too much religion in speech.

Another news person talked about it being like a "George Orwell novel".

I think they are starting to turn.

7. Jackson didn't own the media, didn't have nuclear weapons,
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 12:45 AM by Rabrrrrrr
didn't have the world alienated against him, didn't own the companies that make the voting machines, and didn't have delusions of being a God Emperor.

But I appreciate your optimism - I think, at the bottom, I am actually optimistic, too. I believe that Americans will eventually, finally, rally and send this bozo off, and destroy the bond betwen the American Taliban religious right, the people who vote republican because they have a lot of money, and the rest of the republican party.

That's my hope. But sometimes, I'm cynical and without hope.

20. You speak of the 'talibornagain', right?
And of your three sects of the repub party (hmmm, sounds rather like the 3 sects of Iraqis), "the rest of" sounds like the group I'd rather converse with. Well, maybe some of the wealthy too - just for an insight. But not the fundie-doodle-doos.

9. Don't give up

I truly believe by the end of these next 4 years most people will be so sick of this shit they'll vote for anyone or anything but a rethug. I have a couple freeper in-laws that are already suffering from buyer's remorse and tasting the bitter bile they have to stomach because of the chimp*. I suspect there are many more to come in the next 4 years.

But, until then, I'll belly up to the bar and drink with ya, hell, I'll drink a bunch. It's going to be a rough 4 years.

12. I don't drink, I am just very depressed about this; listening
to his CRAZY inaugural speech talking about freedom, freedom, freedom, when all he is doing is killing people. I don't think the country or the world can take another 4 years of this level of destruction, waste and killing.

17. I'll gladly serve you a gin and tonic in the highball glass,
but will not serve you a Martini.

A Martini glass is not pretentious (the word you meant to use) - it is, simply, and in fact, the glass in which the Martini is supposed to be served. The Martini glass - also called the cocktail glass - is the preferred drink for all cocktails served straight up (the drink category in which the Martini exists).

Serving a Martini on the rocks and/or in a highball glass is blasphemy, unless you're in a shit bar - like an Olive Garden, TGIF, Chi-Chis, Applebees, etc. - in which case you are better off ordering it on the rocks so that it will at least be chilled. Bartenders at the shit national chains aren't bartenders - they're fucking morans whose entire "bartending" training consists of being shown which frozen/pre-prepared drink mix to use for the cocktails. Fuck them. They're assholes, ignorant, and couldn't give a goddamn about how to serve a drink - but then again, they don't need to know anything about bartending, because the kind of useless shiteating moran who would actually go to one of those places has no idea what a good cocktail is, nor how to enjoy its complexity, anyway. So, why waste money on a bartender when you're the kind of place designed for men who have their name on their belt buckles and women who have excessivley large hair and who think that it (big hair, fake nails, sweatshirts with logos, and a minivan) is really the ultimate in high fashion.

i'll talk myself into it:
F-him
F-him

and maybe sooner or later i'll start believing that i don't care anymore
