Who made the mistake of watching today's events?
I did. It's kind of like rubbernecking at an accident scene. I was depressed at the first one, but even more so this time around because now I know just how bad it can be. AND they have both the Senate and the House this time around.

So, what's the remedy for this affliction?

2. I watched it too.
I've seen every one since I've been of voting age. But that dosen't mean I had to enjoy every one. I don't know of a cure for this affliction, but 3mg of xanax can help the after effects :)

Just saw Condi. She was wearing black...highly appropriate...sort of looks like a black widow spider.

8. Only listened to NPR and Pacifica today
The TV has been off so far. I really liked it when I heard Pacifica playing the funeral march during a break in the proceedings. At one point, Pacifica was set up near A.N.S.W.E.R's stage, and all these repukes were parading past, and getting hooted at, they remarked that the police must have set up a detour somewhere, causing them to have to parade past the demonstrators.

9. I Watched For 5 Minutes... But Turned It Off When Wolf Blitzer Said...
...something similar to how he "shared the pride that George W. Bush's parents must be feeling right now". (I'm pretty sure it was Wolf Blitzer who said that.)

It was a disgusting display.

12. Not me. Sorry you had to go through that.
I don't think I've ever watched an inauguration (maybe Reagan's 1980 one was on the TV during class in junior high). I'm certainly not going to start now.

The only remedy I know of is time. It's all downhill for Bush from here out. He's now a lame duck.

I also found this quote (via Washington Monthly) helpful:

"A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over, their spells dissolve, and the people, recovering their true sight, restore their government to its true principles. It is true that in the meantime we are suffering deeply in spirit, and incurring the horrors of a war and long oppressions of enormous public debt...If the game runs sometime against us at home we must have patience till luck turns, and then we shall have an opportunity of winning back the principles we have lost, for this is a game where principles are at stake."
Thomas Jefferson, 1798

Sorry you had to suffer though the depressing scene.

:hi:

15. What a fitting quote
I think I'll print that out and post it on my wall somewhere. The suffering was self-imposed, but thanks for your kind words. :pals:

13. I saw part
The B.B.C. broadcast the oaths and then his speech. I nearly fell asleep whilst he was chuntering on, then afterwards David Frum (whom the B.B.C. always have as the right-wing commentator) said it should have been cut in half (does this mean that I'm going to hell for agreeing with David Frum?).
