Explain this church billboard saying to me...
... cause I just don't get it.

Everything has purpose, not reason.
Ask God.

1. Faith is not built on logic
Otherwise, what kind of fucking god would allow Rwanda or Iraq or the tsunami. It's probably a reference to the latter.

4. How come 'faith is in the word, and not in the deed' these days?
'supposed to be the other way around, isn't it?

6. I think it's kinda funny
that, "not reason" would be used. Since reason is not something I associate with churches anyway.

In fact it was Martin Luther that said, "Reason is the greatest enemy that faith has: it never comes to the aid of spritual things, but--more frequently than not --struggles against the Divine Word...."

9. I can explain it exactly. It is the basic psychiatric ploy used by
clerics to teach people to disable their normal objective cognitive capabilities and replace them by an unquestioning compliance to whatever the clerics say is true. Unless they can paralyze the minds of their victims, their nonsense is totally ineffective.

12. I think Archie Bunker put it best....
"It don't have to make sense; it's faith, faith! Faith is when you believe something that nobody in his right mind would ever believe."

14. They've been replaying "All In the Family" on sundays
on CBS. It's so brilliant. Gawd, nothing has changed! These people could so easily be contemporary (except for the occasional hippie characters).

16. Its pretty simple
Unreasonable things can happen, and things can happen for apparently no reason. However, the believer believes that the event has a purpose in his or her life, however unreasonable or however perceived has having no reason or serving no purpose.

That's it.

18. It means not everything has reason, but it does have purpose.
I'm not sure I totally agree with it, but I do see a lot of unreasonable things. It's the purpose that I question.

19. The money spent renting that billboard to post such --
-- manipulative crap would have been better spent as a donation to recent tsunami victims, Amnesty International, or another cause that would actually assist human beings.

The message itself is snake oil.
