These are my cats....

Grendel the desk monster. Grendel is a rescue:



Murphy (L) and Maxwell (R). Murphy is a litter mate of Mango (below) and Maxwell is Grendel's son. Maxwell's father died of FUS shortly after he was conceived:

Finally, here is Marble, another rescue. Marble does not get along well with other cats, although she tolerates the ones she lives with just fine. She's an absolute sweetheart. She so wants to be an only cat:

9. marble is an awesome cat....

She was a local stray that half the town fed for her first year or so, evidently abandoned-- she was completely socialized and had been spayed. I took her in after someone told me she had been mauled by a dog. She had back surgery, drainage tubes-- it was ugly. Took several months to recover, and by that time she had become a permanent resident.

12. Have you ever heard of feline urinary disease?

My cat was asleep in his litter box this morning and he wouldn't eat. When I took him out of the litter box he couldn't walk. It scared to me to death! I took him to the vet today and he said he had urinary disease and there were crystals in his urine. It has an 80% cure rate, but it can be fatal if it isn't caught in time. They are keeping my "Monty" for a few days:cry:

14. Maxwell's father died of FUS despite long attempts to save him....

It's a good thing you caught it-- I'm sure Monty will be fine. My cat Wallace (Maxwell's father) developed it when he was only about two years old and unlike most cats, didn't respond to any treatment. His kidneys ultimately failed.

I feed a mix of good quality low ash dry food and canned wet food so Wallace was likely just predisposed to urinary problems. It was truly awful watching him struggle with it.

19. it was my second experience with FUS in 25 yrs or so...

...and he simply crashed and burned. No lasting response to treatment. We have a wonderful vet who did everything she could. It was a terrible experience for all of us. Wallace is buried under an apple tree in my back yard.

Just for contrast, here's a picture of what the food and water bowls look like around here-- and that's just the kibble bowl. I put out two plates of canned food a day too (I also feed a couple of the neighborhood cats).
