15. that is the way I fall asleep
my door must be closed, the ceiling fan for air circulation, but I also must have the tv on or radio.

4. put my head on the pillow
Well it doesn't even take that much. Closing my eyes pretty much works for me.

5. I lie down
and let my head hit the pillow.

I will always try to read, but the only time I DON'T conk out soon after is when it's well past midnight on a work night. When I get to bed early with the intention of reading, I end up snoozing by the end of the first page. :boring:

Where is the justice in that?

7. Radio...something incredibly boring if I can find it.
A girlfriend I was dating about ten years ago couldn't go to sleep unless Art Bell was on the radio. I hated it for a while then pretty soon I, too, could not sleep if the radio wasn't on. Sucks, I haven't dated her in a looooong time (7-8 years) but I still can't get to sleep without "something" going. I'm less picky than she was. I still usually listen to Coast to Coast AM- god, it's so bad now you can't help BUT to fall asleep. If for some reason I can't find that, I try to find one of those creepy AM through-the-night Christian evangelical stations. Those are almost as good except it always saddens me to realize that little old ladies are out there listening to the sophmoric theatrics of the radio preacher and dishing up their food money. Barring those, books on tape work wonders. HAVE to be boring though. Last night, for instance, I listened to Ann Coulter's book about talking to liberals if you must. My current girlfriend was like "Why are you listening to that crap?"

"Because it's crap." And it sure was, I didn't last but about three paragraphs into it. And no, I didn't pay for it. Found it on the ground.

17. Where do you live?
usually I can pick up Bernie or Ray late at night. If I can't sleep it is because I can't hear Bernie, Ray or Coast to Coast, if worse turns to worse, I listen to reruns of ARR, no way will I listen to the evangelical stations. If I can't connect on radio, I put on the TV to fall asleep.

8. Hubby always slept with a fan on in the room
and when we got together it was a big problem for I-Must-Have-Absolute-Quiet-To-Sleep WildClarySage. But after (almost) 11 years of wedded bliss, I can't sleep without the damned fan on either.

Must be love.

9. Close my eyes and listen to my breathing.
Takes me about 2 minutes to get to sleep.

Disclaimer: I'm an air traffic controller. As such, I have a bizarre work schedule. After 14 years, falling asleep on command isn't something special - it's a survival trait.

11. How do I keep from falling asleep?
That might be a better question for me.
I wish I could stay up later, do more things. As soon as I lie down I am in dreamland, no problem. The problem is getting up. I could sleep till noon if I could.

I find that the most important of all. Nothing else is going to work if I don't push the keyboard away first.

14. It could be forty below outside
But, if I'm hot and miserable, I turn on the air conditioner. My airconditioner is on everynight, year around.

16. Slightly off topic, but I can sleep with a video I've seen playing,
but not with the television or a new video, if my wife happens to be watching one. I always listen to hear what's going on.

22. Hmmm, well, I can sleep in total silence. However, I grew up
falling asleep to the rocking and noise of NYC subways, listening to the ice flowing past the hull of my icebreaker, and similar things. So I guess I do prefer a little noise, though I tend to like white noise more.

24. I like it quiet.
Earplugs if my husband gets snory.

Fan in the summer when the windows are open, the block the sound of traffic.

Mostly I just read a little and stick my head down. Voila!

But I often wake up again a few hours later.

27. Usually ...
I end up falling asleep on the couch while watching TV. I wake up in a very confused state at about 12:30, turn off the TV, blow out the candles & crawl upstairs. It's a very pathetic site to behold.
