1. Never seen an episode but I assume the right answer is
"All of the above"

2. That Affected Style Of 'Singing' That Barely Resembles The Actual Tune
It's like the singer is constantly flitting around doing vocal acrobatics while they are "searching" for the right note. It's like they are making it up as they go along. It's like they have no clue what it might be like to actually sing the song as it was originally written. It's like they don't know how to hold and sing a pure sustained note for longer than half-a-beat.

That's not talent! I can't wait until this fad is over. Please let it be a fad.

3. Actually....
I watch it. Or rather, I listen to it. The closer it gets to the end of the season, the less 'Mute' is on. A few amazing voices have been found. In a few years when Fantasia's talent matures, she's gonna be a legend. And it's my secret fantasy! :eyes:

5. Me too. I just don't get it
It is not like Americans go to watch people (that CAN sing) in any great numbers so why do they watch people who can't sing? and root for them?

They systematically exclude anyone with proven talent from that show. Not one singer, even semi-professional, will be allowed on.

I think what the show is really about is watching these sort of immature personalities breakdown under even the slightest criticism. That one girl got on Surreal Life and was throwing a hissy fit that singing some lame pop song for that show was going to destroy her career. Flavor Flav seemed to be the only one to call 'bullshit.' He acknowledged that she actually has a good voice and can use it fairly well but she has done nothing that would validate her commercially.

4. Yet another reason that I don't miss having TV
Although I will say the first few episodes of the season when they do the tryouts are pretty f*cking hilarious.

6. I have become addicted to this show

It's like watching a car wreck. The audience members with their "My hear's Aiken for Clay" signs have to be the worst.

Also, this is the show that brought us William Hung who is "Hung for the Holidays"
