Some Russian bastard is supposedly trying to purchase the Vancouver Canucks and stack them with all Russian players. Fuck him, fuck him and the Lada he rolled in on. My team is not a fucking novelty item, and I don't want a team made up of all people from another country. The Canucks had 37 sell-outs last season, and have one of the best followings in the world. We don't need this shit, buy the Tampa Bay Lighting or something.

This article may PRETEND that Vancouverites are excited about it, maybe the downtown dwelling yuppie pukes that barely watch games are, but if this happens. Us Blue collar Tri-city/Burnaby Folk ae gonna have something to say about it. I will boycott the team in every possible way if this happens.

(ANd I'm cancelling my National Post subscription, they talk to a University of Toronto Prof about how Vancouverites feel about this, typical )

3. I really don't think that will ever happen

Notwithstanding the fact that these rumors are being denied, it would be really stupid to try to make an all-Russian (or all-anything) team in the NHL. I think everyone knows, from coaches to GMs to players to fans, that diversity on a team is a good thing. Teams will do their best to acquire the best players they can afford to get, notwithstanding their ethnicity. If you limit your choices to all russian players, you may be passing up good players while settling for mediocre players. Who would they trade Bertuzzi for? What goaltender would replace Cloutier? Who would fill Naslund's skates? The Canucks have a good team on the ice right now. A new owner would fuck with that at his peril.

Needless to say, if any of this is true, I think it would be a terrible idea.
