It's coitins for Laura Bush. Looking for root of an idiom.
On DU's main page, Laura Bush is captioned as saying that she's wearing curtains. This is probably a reference to Scarlett O'Hara's "going to the ball" dress, but I remember that "curtains" has another reference.

Remember the old mobster movies when the rough cop tells the crook, "It's curtains (coitins) for you." I think the reference has to do with the stripped metal bars of a prison. Does anybody else have any other information?

1. At the end of a stage play
the curtains are drawn shut. "It's curtains for you" is a death threat.

6. With the curtain rod still in! "I saw it in the window and I just had to
have it." God, I loved that skit.

8. Carol Burnett was the absolute best.
I did do something to her though, and I have been living with the guilt for all these years. I just have to get it off my chest. When she had that play on Broadway, we had tickets to see her. My hubby gave me a free pass for the weekend and I went with a couple of friends. Unfortunately, I was suffering symptoms similar to chronic fatigue syndrome at the time and dealing with major sugar drop fluctuations and I hadn't anticipated all the walking that would be involved when you go to New York City on an economy pass. After walking for what seemed like forever, and at a fast pace, we made it to the play on time but when we walked into the theater, the room started spinning and I sensed I was about to pass out. I told my friends I was going to the lounge and I hoped to find a place to lie down, but they convinced me to take my seat in the audience. They were great seats. Center balcony! And there was I doing my best to keep my eyes open. The theater was very small, so I suspect that it was impossible for someone on stage to miss me if they were looking for crowd reactions. The play closed shortly after that. For years, I felt so guilty! Carol Burnett, please forgive me! You're the best!
