20. Metal Box was 3 disks!
I had that one once... smashed it in a pseudo-religious frenzy circa 1986...

Great album.

9. Yeah. I screwed up. Big Time.
I didn't think that this thread had made it, I had gotten an error message when I tried to post.

Then when I thought about it some more, I figured I'd throw in TMR, edit out a couple of selections and put "Other" in as a choice.

So, my bad.

Sorry.

11. That's a Triple Album.
Is it not? I was saving that for later. Although Rick Wakeman always called that album "Tales from Toby's Graphic Go-Cart". Guess he didn't like it all that much.

23. Wakeman and TFTO in concert
I heard a story one time that during one really ponderous moment when the band was performing the entire album in concert that Wakeman actually had curry delivered onto the stage by a takeout joint as a sort of statement of his uninvolvement in the the whole affair.

Don't know if it's true but I could see that as being one of the signs that Wakeman was about to turn in his notice to the band.

15. I stand corrected. It was a double album.
It only seems like a triple album. Prior to TFTO, I was a Yes fan. But TFTO puts me to sleep.

25. Same Here!
I loved Fragile, The Yes Album, the live 2-set Yessongs, but TFTO was dreadfully pretentious and quite unmusical. Lots of wanking and pretending it was classical music.

40. I'd include SOTT too.
Though of his, 1999 may have broken more new ground for the time.
If quadruple albums counted, I'd choose Crystal Ball.

Also, Smashing Pumpkins Melocholia and the Infinite Sadness I'd include in the voting.

But I'm settling for the white album for some reason. :)

27. I voted Electric Ladyland
from the choices provided. I used to put on Side 4 (House Burning Down, Voodoo Child (slightly revisited), Watchtower) and go back to bed first thing in the morning when I didn't want to get up... there is no WAY you can stay in bed for that entire side -- it makes you want to get up and CONQUER THE WORLD!! I vote that for the best album side, ever.

I have a sentimental attachment to Physical Grafitti, though (how do you spell graffiti?) so I would probably vote that one best dbl-LP...

It was the 2nd album I ever bought, back in 1977. First was Pink Floyd Animals. I sure was sold on rock music! Silly me, I thought it was ALL as good.

Best studio double, followed VERY closely by the Mothers Of Invention's "Freak Out!", which is certainly the best debut double.

For others not on the list, I must add Miles Davis "Bitches Brew", Pink Floyd "The Wall", and for best live/studio combo, the Allman Brothers "Eat A Peach".

Best live double: Allman Brothers at Fillmore East and Lynyrd Skynyrd "One More From The Road" (tie)

Followed by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band "Live Bullet", and all six volumes of Frank Zappa's "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore".

Overrated studio double: Led Zeppelin "Physical Graffiti". Mostly filler left over from previous albums. This would have made one helluva single album though.

Underrated studio double: Johnny Winter "Second Winter".

Overrated live double: Peter Framptom "Framptom Comes Alive". Who knew guitar wanking on pop ballads had such market potential?

Underrated live double: Neil Young and Crazy Horse "Weld".. This BLISTERS! Best live Crazy Horse album ever.
