PRODUCT DANGER !!!!!!!!!!
I don't know how I should do this but a couple hours ago two lava lamps blew up in my front room. I had just left a little earlier to cook something in the kitchen or I would have been hit.

I heard two blasts and glass breaking and thought someone was shooting though my glass patio doors. I was in shock. I looked and saw the glass everywhere and the red and blue all over the walls etc. from the insides of the lamps.

I called the mail order place I got them from months ago and the woman said they knew they were defective and were trying to call all who had ordered them. Well they hadn,t called me . I had three of them .The silver one is still intact. I don't know if both blew at the same time or if one blew and hit the other and made it blow.

I have had these for months and on every day. I'm so grateful no one was in there when it happpened. Shards of glass went everywhere, even tore through a lamp shade nearby.

Main thing is I want to warn everyone here in case you have one or know someone who does. I'm going to contact the media also. The lady at the mail order place said she couldn't do anything till tomorrow . Crap on that nonsense!

They are called PEACE METALLIC LAVA and they come in red, blue and silver. I've had mine for MONTHS. They are extremely dangerous.

1. so scary!
I'm glad you're okay. You should sue the company. It's completely outrageous that the woman can't do anything about it until tomorrow. I hate people!

2. Thank you
It is terribly scary. To think I've had these in here and on every day for months and at any time they could have done this! There have been little kids here and I have pet birds who could have been hurt or killed also who hang out with me here. I am still shaking hours later. I've vacuumed and picked the big shards of glass but there are little slivers of glass on every surface.

I have never sued anyone before but this is different. They found out they were a hazard and didn't do much to warn us. I am mortified as to the injuries this could have caused. And of course I have plenty of damage, walls rugs furniture etc. But I'm just so grateful no-one was hurt.

I'm going to go call my local radio and tv station that is very large and try to get a warning out.

I'm a big lava lamp person and have many . No touble ever before.
But these particular ones are relatively new. Please let me know if there's any other ways to get the word out about these. Many were sold.

3. I have 2 Queen sized lava lamps
Wonder if it's in danger? We won both at Dave & Buster's.

4. I think most lava lamps are ok
The ones that blew up on me are relatively new and the "lava" inside are bright red, blue or silver metallic looking. I'm trying to find the name of the company that makes them.

I'll say though, after this horrible incident I'll be uneasy about ever using any of my lava lamps again. Many I've had for years.

5. Report it
If this is a known problem there should be a recall. http://www.cpsc.gov/talk.html

Take photos (film is better than digital for this) to document the damage. Keep reciepts for anything you have to repair or replace.

6. you will notice that the U.L. sticker is probably not there.
One of the things the (free market ) republaturds want to do away with by having nothing made in America is safe electronics.
why does everything now have a wall wart ugly transformer ? simple, you don't need an underwriter's lab sticker on it.See this country used to have things that saved peoples lives because it was tested and if you had a problem the U.L. was on your side.
hope you are alright, those lava lamps have some pretty poisonous stuff in them and get real hot.
