Tea thread!
What kind of tea do you like? I like Darjeeling and hate Earl Grey.

1. Green tea with jasmine.
The green tea part is good for you, the jasmine part makes it fragrant.

6. Green Tea, plain
Lipton or Salada usually. I used to drink lots of coffee loaded with sugar but kind of been on a health kick since I quit a few bad habbits(drinking, cigarettes and weed). I actually like it quite a bit now just plain, I do let it sit awhile so it's fairly strong as far as tea goes. 190mg of antioxidants that are way more powerful then vitamin E if I remember correctly =).

7. Pretty much anything....
that's on sale, although my favorite supermarket brand is Swee-Touch-Nee.

Been drinking a lot of green tea lately, but have some Earl Grey and English Breakfast around. And some strange, but good, brew that I picked up in Big Lots.

Mostly, I make iced tea to have someting cold around to drink-- four or five bags makes about a half gallon. Splenda and lemon. I use Stevia for coffee, but it just doesn't seem to work with tea.

9. White tea, and Spring tea, and Russian Caravan, and good Green Tea
Edited on Sat Dec-25-04 01:51 AM by Rabrrrrrr
The White Tea and Spring Tea version I like are the ones straight from Taiwan, available through the Ten Ren tea company in the US (the best of the tea importing companies, IMO). Both these teas are in the $100+ a pound range, but well worth it.

Fucking awesome tea, especially mixed together.

The Russian Caravan - a nice, meaty, smoky, salmony Russian tea - is the version that comes from TeaLuxe. TeaLuxe, in fact, actually carries a couple Russian teas, and they're all good. VERY different from the Japanese and Taiwanese teas.

(and I'm a green tea purist - none of those awful bagged green teas; fresh leaf only)

The tranquility makes the water softer over there.

:P

:hi: Skittles!!

Quite honestly, though, it could be tasting better both because of the water, but also and especially because of how they boil/heat the water. I lived with a gent from England, and he always made better tea than me, even though we were using the same equipment, water, tea bags, and cups. He just had the hang of the "English Way" of making tea.

Not only do I like Stash Chai, I like Celestial Seasonings Gingerbread Spice, Bengal Spice and Mountain Chai.

And I drink it with Silk vanilla milk. I am not a sweetener type so Silk milk does just fine. Which reminds me to brew a pot right now!!!

(I should have asked Santa for a decent tea pot)

21. What's not to like?
Favorites tend to be: Gypsy Zhena blends http://www.gypsytea.com/, with Lemon Jasmine (Green tea with Lemon Myrtle and Jasmine notes) Sense of Peace (white tea with mint and rose) and CodePink (Raspberry Earl Grey - and I'm not an Earl Grey fan; this is special stuff...) Lady Grey, good oolong, Taj Mahal Assam black. (This last is a great basic tea that blends well with flavorings if you want to do your own blends, can sit in the pot all day and not get stewed-tasting, and reheats well.)

I'm not a big fan of Twinings - woody; Celestial Seasonings (fruity... do they have to put orange peel in EVERYTHING?!?) or Tazo (dusty). Darjeelings are something I'm picky about since many are very astringent.

Tea people are worse than coffee snobs when it comes to picky, I notice... not that I'm complaining. Life's too short to drink bad tea.

22. Green Tea ... the more expensive the better.
I live near Japantown. I bought the 200 g for 10 bucks green tea, which is like one or two levels from the top. The most expensive is 170g for 25 dollars. Its all in Japanese so I can't read it, nor is it translated.

I went there today because its totally open. For us its Christmas. For most of them, its Saturday! I bought Teriyaki Chicken and the Kuni/Ikura Rice bowls for Christmas dinner.

24. I'm a snob.
Hand picked, mountain grown Ceylon (or Sri Lankan) Orange Pekoe.

Heat your teapot, preferably a Brown Betty, with hot water, ensure tea water is "thouroughly" boiling. Pour water over tea. Encase in a cozy and steep to your preference.

Warm a splash of milk in the microwave and add tea to milk.

Tea, the brew that refreshes but does not inebriate.

37. Tetly Tea is bad because it pays its workers less than a living wage and
thus they starve. Support tea pickers rights and pay the proper cost for your tea direct from the grower to you.. no bogus Tetley/Lipton fascist middle man. Did you know that Tetley and Lipton buy tea from unscrupulous growers who engage in repressive labor practices? At Dilmah you can be assured that tea workers rights are not abused.

It is about the only tea I've ever had that I completely loathed with a passion just as a cup of tea. I could see though how it could be used for other purposes and be better suited. Interesting.

40. Almost anything from Harney and Sons.
I tend to go for herbal teas, but quality black, white, or oolong teas if properly prepared are good as well (with the exception of Lapsang Souchong which I referred to as "stinky tea". It's smoky and really smells terrible.). I know green tea is supposed to be the healthiest and I don't dislike it, but I could never quite pick up a taste for it either.

43. pretty much any tea. clove tea is nice as well.
love darjeeling and oolong, if i can get it (so much effort to go out of the door and buy different teas...). otherwise i drink what's proffered, usually preferring chai, popcorn, green (w/mango :D), constant comment, mint, a fruit tea, chammomile(sp?), or sometimes a plain ol' lipton black (mmm, mississippi mud. straight up blue collar delish!). sometimes, for settled nerves and some punch i'll have just clove tea. just throw a pair of black cloves into the water to steep and enjoy. just found out it also is a antiparasitic... hmm, i guess that's useful to know.

speak of the devil, just came back from having chai tea with an additional clove kick. hmm, funny that.
