Tom Cruise leaves $5,000 dollar tip for accident victim
LEXINGTON, Va. -- Actor Tom Cruise left a lot of cash in a tip jar for an accident victim.

Cruise walked into a Virginia Dairy Queen and saw the jar with a photo of Ashley Flint and her story.

Flint was in a go-cart accident in September. It has left her family with a mountain of hospital bills.

So Cruise left $5,000 in cash in the jar.

Flint said she would love to meet Cruise and thank him for the gift.

Cruise is in Virginia filming his new movie, "War of the Worlds."

5. If I had his money...
I'd always have a few grand on hand. It's not that much really, especially if it was in $100 bills.

7. Say what you want about Cruise
There is plenty to say. But as far as I am concerned, he gets a Lifetime Pass For Any And All Stupidity, earned for his rendition of Ron Kovic in 'Born on the Fourth of July.'

They interviewed Kovic after the film, and he said Cruise went around with him for weeks in a wheelchair to understand what it means to be unable to walk. Kovic recounted one incident where the two of them went to a place that had no wheelchair access, and Cruise went off like a bomb on the owner of the place. Because Cruse had the long hair/beard going to play Kovic, the guy didn't know it was Cruise, and Cruise didn't let him know.

That movie is probably #3 on my all-time Important Films list, abd Cruise was magnificent.

8. Very nice gesture.
Good for him. And why does a family have these large medical bills? Because the health care situation in this country needs to be fixed.

12. Exactly. The fundamental problems need to be fixed.
So do the fundamentalists, all they do is hurt people in the name of their God.

11. It's just like if any of us donated $20, assuming our income was
$40,000/yr (compared to $10 million for one film, which is once per year, more or less.)

Let's not overhype him. After all, he'll sue people who dare call him gay for a hell of a lot more money. :eyes:

17. Thanks. I just did:
Tom is a human being. Like any of us. Does good. Does bad. I won't disavow my earlier statement just yet (it's still true), but he ain't all bad, that's for sure. Neither is the Salvation Army. :-)

15. Wouldn't you?
If I wasn't gay, which I am, and people were publishing articles saying that I was gay, based on "proof", I'd sue their sorry ass for all they were worth. Especially considering his livelihood is based on having a certain public image, it makes even more sense! :)

19. Dunno. I'm not rich nor famous. And if I was, why would you think I'd
do the same thing? I'm not a lemming, I'm a person.

Besides, connecting the dots with Tom Cruise is no different than DUers connecting the neocon dots.

May be true. Or it may not.

Would I go after people who dares to do a mccarthy on me? Dunno. Again, I'm not rich or famous. I'll let you know if or when I do.

At least Ricky Martin had the common decency to respond any of those bullshit questions with "None of your business either way, we're all equal, end of story." Ricky's been called gay too and you don't see him having shit fits and suing everybody. (Well, not that can remember but I will slit one of my wrists if it turns out I was wrong. :-) )

Public image. I spit on the concept. It's "image" as being a big reason as to why there are so many problems in this world. It makes bullies out of some. Rapists for others. Greedy executives for others. And anyone who is on the opposite end of that image ideal gets a pummelling for no good reason except for the instigator's ego. :spit:

24. Damn, he is fine. And if he is a repuke, well then he is.
It's funny how people are coming down on me for disliking Cruise's gay problem because he's apparently a liberal. But Martin, a republican it seems, actually has the decency to say what MANY people have rightfully being saying and he's now as evil as *.

Something doesn't sound right.

It's all another reason why nobody should put anybody on a pedastal. We should all be praised when we do right. And given constructive criticism when we do wrong. But I digress. I'm sure 60,000 DUers will now call me a freeper just because I supported ONE comment from one guy who supports the dingdong*. And a common sense comment at that.

29. Well, Obviously Tom Cruise is a much bigger star than Ricky Martin will
ever be! He has much more of an "image " to protect. You might spit on image but that is what makes a career in Hollywood. You will notice Ricky hasn't really got one anymore! Actually, I find Cruise irritating and I find him limited as an actor, but it was still a very nice thing he did and he is a Democrat and that makes a difference to me!

21. I could care less what he does. Real gentlemen don't boast their altruism
and they don't act as if they're uber-sensitive when somebody pokes fun/commentary at them.

If Ricky Martin had the guts to say that it doesn't make a bit of difference either way when he was asked by the media, and not (that I'd ever read) had a tantrum and started suing, what's Tom's problem?

Like I said, we're all human. No two people act exactly the same. I just find Ricky Martin to be a little bit more mature (and probably had fewer failed marriages too, and the only reason I know that is because the idiot tabloid trash media loves to pry into stars' lives. Once again, kudos to Ricky for being a man, and no praise to Cruise who's a mouse in that regard.)

$5,000? what a cheap so-and-so.
In his mind he thinks that's a generous gift. It's like me leaving 5 pennies. But there's no way I'd ever donate 5 pennies so Cruise must be a better man.:P
