I need to get to know Pink Floyd better
I've enjoyed their music for quite some time, but I've never explored their material, themes, or band history in depth.

Any thoughts on Pink Floyd?

1. Ask Jerry Falwell...
He's recently quoted them!

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

2. I remember him
He used to work at the local gas station. He's the old guy who gave me $15 change from a $20 bill for $10 worth of gas.

Good guy, that Floyd. He must be dead by now. Pity.

4. Love Floyd
Ain't it obvious? :)

I like some of the early stuff but I really like the later material. The whole thematic approach to music. Very symphonic which appeals to me and depth in the lyrics. I think The Wall is a masterpiece.

Meddle, Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall and The Final Cut are, I think, some of the best albums produced by anyone. I could not pick a favorite.

7. Can't do post-Waters Floyd
Saw Pro and Cons and Delicate Sounds shows. While Delicate was very impressive, Pros and Cons had more of what a real Floyd show was like.

11. Agree
Gilmour is a great guitarist but Waters was the soul of the band, IMO. Delicate Sounds was the very stadium extravaganza that The Wall was written in response to.

And with the exception of "Sorrow", nothing the band produced originally post Waters was anything special. "Sorrow" was a good guitar song but lyrically not real impressive.

6. You're probably familiar with the usual suspects:
Dark Side, Wish You Were Here, and the Wall. Try "Meddle." it's one of their best, and "Echoes" is my favorite Floyd song.
"Obscured by Clouds" and "Animals" are also great, underrated Floyd discs. If you're ambitious, you may also want to try "Piper at the Gates of Dawn," their debut LP with Syd Barrett as the frontman.

Album rankings:

1.) Darkside of the Moon (only problem...TOO SHORT <40 min of music wtf?!?!>)
2.) Wish you were here (floyd's favorite )
3.) Meddle (so underrated could be #1!)
4.) The wall (beginning of the end for floyd)
5.) Atom heart mother (kinda bizzare but good if you like french horns!)
6.) Animals (great song: Sheep)

taught.

21. Go to Barnes and Noble.
Got to music section of the magazine racks. I picked up a mag made up of the history of Floyd w/comments by Roger Waters for my husband for Christmas. It's soft-covered, and looks like it'll be interesting. I'd share more, but it's already wrapped. :hi:
