I know that people hold a very wide variety of perspectives and opinions on this subject. I'm just curious as to what your thoughts are.

9. I always have as much as I need...

...but never as much as I want. ;-)

Whether I scrimp and save, or splurge and blow it, I can always just cover my basic expenses. If I worry about it, or if I don't. If I plan, or if I don't. The basic money I need comes to me, but I never have enough o go on vacation or buy myself something nice, or do the kind of annual giving I would like to do.

10. It's an emotionally abusive relationship

We used to be okay and then one day, out of the blue, it starts cheating on me with inanimate objects like my computer. When I brought it up all Money could say was "HA! You thought you could save me, but you were wrong! You are so stupid and irresponsible - I'll show you." Next thing I know I'm getting all these calls from people asking for Money. Men, women - it didn't matter.
Now I can't seem to break the cycle.

15. I've never been consumed by a need for money

I've never desired a big house, fancy car, lots of toys or any of that conspicuous consumption stuff. I'm 44, btw.

I've always wanted to have enough money to pay my bills and keep a roof over my head. I like to live simply, and not be tied down by my possessions. I've been known to put my few belongings in storage and simply leave, drive across the country and start fresh elsewhere.

However, there is a part of me that would love to win the lottery, not to build big houses and throw parties but to give to charities, set up scholarships or fund battered women's shelters, as well as pay for my childrens and grandchildrens educations.

I know that sounds ridiculously goody goody and idealistic but it's true. I was raised poor but happy and never felt like I needed a lot more.

16. It's Changed a Lot

I used to be poor, single, work odd jobs like waiting and taxi driving, and struggle financially.

Now I'm 50, have had a corporate job for 18 years. I also have child support, college expenses in three years, and concerns about retirement. Money is much more important, and I need much more of it to feel secure.

I've never been a spendthrift, but I like to spend enough to be comfortable, to enjoy things like vacations and restaurants, and to be able to buy nice presents and give my daughter things. Travel is especially important to me -- you can't do the same things when you retire.

When I separated nine years ago, I had $10,000 in consumer debt which eventually grew to $20,000. That was too much for my comfort level, but it was difficult to get control expenses.

In the last two years, I've bought three small rental properties and have wiped out the consumer debt by folding it into equity loans. I generally feel much better about life, although social security is still a concern.

I drive a 10 year old Toyota, buy inexpensive clothes, have no kids and rarely travel. My partner and I splurge on only a few things, like eating out in nice restaurants. What extra money we have is poured into the 100 year old money pit we call our home.

32. I didn't use money much until I got married and had kids.

When I was single I didn't want to pay taxes, but I didn't want to be illegal either, so I lived well below the "poverty line." It was some sort of idealism mixed with a bit of autism.

But that's not the way you keep wife and kids. Now I surf the money flow, and try not to fall in. There's a lot of raw sewage in that water, but the surfing is pretty good.
