Favorite WKRP in Cincinnati episode?
Mine is the one where Jennifer (Loni Anderson) has nude photographs taken of her without her knowledge, and Andy, Carlson, Venus, Herb and the others go after the pornographer and the pictures.

RIP Gordon Jump. Great actor, great show.

1. The Phone police
when Johny is up at the tower broadcasting 'cause of no power at the studio and he destroys a phone.

Perhaps one of the funniest things ever on TV.

4. Not only the funniest WKRP, but IMO
the funniest single episode of any sitcom on TV ever, was the turkey drop at Thanksgiving.

"Andy, I swear I didn't know turkeys can't fly...."

42. "As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."
No doubt about it. It has to be that episode.

A friend of mine attended a trade show, I guess for household appliances. Gordon Jump was part of the Maytag booth. My friend got Mr. Jumps autograph, but it took a while. He had to wait in a fairly lengthy line. He said the man couldn't have been a nicer person and was a great ambassador for the Maytag Corporation.

Rest in peace, Big Guy.

21. People I know who hate the show...
...make exceptions for "the one with the turkeys."

Me, I love the show. The turkey episode was just the icing.
After awhile, the show got kind of idiosyncratic/nearly surreal. I'm thinking of episodes like the one with Dr. Joyce Brothers as fashion designer Vicki von Vicki.

15. There were several wonderful ones.....
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 02:46 PM by Radicalliberal
1. The Turkeys

Also the one where Les put on blackface to see how the blacks lived....
....He stuck his head into Venus's office and said "I'm gonna' go down and boog-a-loo with the brothers...
Venus's look was pure horror! LOL!

Also the Butler was a riot....
He'd be sitting in the same room as his employer (Carlson's Mom)...
the doorbell would ring and ring and ring...
Carlson's Mom would say "Aren't you going to get that?"
He say "You're closer"
She'd get pissed and he'd say something like "Geez, if I have to!"

20. The tornado espisode
Where Les doesn't have a severe weather warning, so he uses the one for a Soviet invasion, transposing all the way:

"Cincinnati has been invaded by the godless...tornadoes"

I live in Cincinnati, and whenever we have severe weather, I think of that episode and laugh all the way to the storm cellar!

one of their djs was doing coke, and johnny found the coke on him and passed the package onto Carlson, telling him it was foot powder. the dj asks johnny what carlson will do with it, and johnny replies, "carlson's no fool. he'll put it on his feet." cut to carlson hopping up and down, screaming, "I've got a monkey on my foot."

also the turkey episode, and the one where the christian right jerry falwell looking guy wanted them to stop playing certain songs, including "imagine."

God i loved that show! funny and smart and timely. long live gordon jump.

....
LN "the golfer, Ch-eye Ch-eye Rodra-gweez"

JF "... and what are those funny little Mexican dogs, Les?"

LN "You mean the Cha-hoowah-hoowahs?"

And Les always had a band-aid somewhere. Too funny.

32. The one where Herb was in the hospital during a promotion concert
So Carlson pretended to be Herb, and then Les had to pretend to be Carlson. A loan shark was after Johnny, who pretended to be Andy, who was presented as Johnny's brother "Randy Travis." Bailey had a wonderful moment when she wasn't sure if it was okay for her to just be her.

the rugmaker was a station sponsor, so Les went out and got one of their bird's nests.

Filled with newfound confidence, he asks out Jennifer, who accepts, 'cause she knows it'll piss off Herb reeeeeeeeeal bad.

Then on their way out the door, Jennifer gently lifts the rug right off Les' head...

46. Definitely the Cocaine Episode!
"I've got a monkey on my foot!" is priceless.

Except for the constant stream of profanity and the inescapable air monitor that one would get in a real station, Hugh Wilson captured the very soul of radio with "WKRP In Cincinnati."

Gordon Jump's character was the epitome of clueless General Manager who was constantly bailed out by the secretary at the front desk!

Revel in your newfound freedom, Sir!
