15. Local brew from Abita Springs, Louisiana
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:23 AM by Rowdyboy
Most all restaurants in New Orleans sell two main beers: Dixie (not bad but nothing to write home about) and various versions of Abita. Turbodog is my personal favorite-avoid the fruity ones.

Masperos on Decatur Street is a wonderful seafood restaurant-order an oyster or shrimp plate (WAY more seafood than anyone should eat)and an Abita and enjoy

We have been hooked since our trip to NO last year. Thanks for the tip on seafood at Mosperos. We are going back next month and I have it on my list to try. :)

Thick, dark, rich...like espresso with dark chocolate. Packs a punch, too...9% ABV.

6. Samuel Smith Organic Ale.
Ever since I found it, I haven't desired anything else. However, most of the Sammy Smith line is pretty good. Complex flavours, true British beer craftsmanship.

18. Mmmmmm, I've had nearly all of them.
But the ale is my favourite. Not only because I try to eat organic as often as possible (for health and environment reasons) but mainly because it's just so well rounded. Not to hoppy, not too flat. Beware, its flavour changes significantly with its temperature.

20. I refuse to drink ale at other than cellar temperature...heh...
about 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Cold is for lager, which hasn't much in the way of flavour to be appreciated.

23. Someone sounds like the beer expert!
Alas, most of the time I buy beer, it comes from the fridge section of the liquor store. Every time I tell myself I'm going to wait until it warms up a bit before opening it. However, every time I cave in too soon. I blame peer pressure. It's bad enough to spend four dollars on a pint of beer, to sit there waiting for it to attain correct temperature while everyone else is drinking theirs is a one way ticket to beer snob-ville! Oh the pressures of having fine taste.

14. Look for a type of beer called Oude Geuze, not sure if you can find it in
Edited on Fri Dec-10-04 12:20 AM by da_chimperor
the US. It's Belgian, and if you really love beer you'll die for this one. It tastes like no beer I've ever had and it's my absolute favorite. :toast:

Remember, this is the type of beer, not the brewer.

30. Umm . . . it's kinda tricky. I know two ways of saying it
but for your throats sake, I'll leave out the dutch one. Oude (ow-duh) Geuze (geuw-ze) . . . the last part isn't perfect, but it's close enough. Here's a link to a pretty useful website I found on Belgian beer. Enjoy. http://www.belgianstyle.com/mmguide/index.html

16. Just remembered another one I had before
La Fin Du Monde (Canada)

It means "The end of the world" :) It is really light and tasty. Think of it as almost a sparkling white wine and a pale ale mixed together. My (ex-)girlfriend tried it and she loved it; and she HATES beer. The first time I ordered it, I said to the bartender, "Can I have a Femme Du Monde?" She looked at me and laughed for a good thrity seconds. I guess I asked her for a woman of the world. Oh well :)

25. Custom Brewers Blackberry Porter
Ai Yi Yi!!!!! Oh man do I wish I had one now, been a long time. Creamy texture, chocolatey porter but not too heavy and a subtle blackberry flavor. Woo!

Custom Brewers (oh I might have that name a little wrong) is a little local brewery in Honeoye Falls NY. But this one's hard to get, they don't make it all the time. They sell to local pubs so you can only get their beers on tap, or go get a big jug from them.

Part of the secret is an herbal infusion that includes bergamot (the lovely scent in Earl Grey tea). Goddamn, but that's tasty beer!

They also brew an Indica Ale...and yes, it miraculously (and, one hopes, legally) tastes like THAT herb, too.
