Carlin to Vegas: I hate you

December 7, 2004 -- GEORGE Carlin ended his relationship with the MGM Grand in Las Vegas with a devastating diss the other night. The caustic comic finished his four-year run with a dark set that included riffs on suicides and beheadings, and made it clear that he couldn't wait to get out of "this (fucking) hotel" and Sin City. The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Norm Clarke reports that Carlin told the crowd of 700 that he was looking forward to going back east "where the real people are." He added, "People who go to Las Vegas, you've got to question their (fucking) intellect . . . Traveling hundreds and thousands of miles to essentially give your money to a large corporation is kind of (fucking) moronic. That's what I'm always getting here is these kind of (fucking) people with very limited intellects." When a woman yelled something that sounded like "stop degrading us," Carlin fired back, "Thank you very much, whatever that was. I hope it was positive; if not, well, (blow) me," using slang for oral sex. Strangely, though, Carlin isn't ready to leave town yet: He's jumping to the Stardust in February after a falling out with the MGM Grand.

1. Yeah, i can't say I've ever liked Carlin.
I've always thought he's an asshole. But at least he's on our side.

2. Carlin's my hero.
"Religion convinced the world that there's an invisible man in the sky who watches everything you do. And there's 10 things he doesn't want you to do or else you'll go to a burning place with a lake of fire until the end of eternity. But he loves you! ...And he needs money! He's all powerful, but he can't handle money!"

5. He's #2, according to Comedy Central.
He's the #2 all-time greatest stand-up.

He beat out Lenny Bruce even.

14. Who is #1?
And if you answer "You are Number 6," I'll have to nail your head to the floor.

6. he's got a long standing gripe with vegas
that goes all the way back to his earliest years as a comic.

hell, the first track on AM/FM, his first real comedy album is "I was thrown out of a Las Vegas Hotel for using the word shit, in my act... In a town where the biggest game is called 'craps'! There was probably some big Texan out there yelling 'ah shit, ah crap', but they let him stay... fired me... shit."

7. Carlin perfected observational humor
So you have to love him for that alone. Having been to vegas a few times myself, I can see his point. The whole town has a whore vibe, where cash talks and everything else walks.

9. Not a gambler but
so what about whore vibes? If every city was the same nobody would ever go anywhere.

8. It's nice to read about, yet seems like a pretty shallow and
hypocritical thing for a man destined for the "Stardust" early next year to be complaining about it.

George, if you're still taking their money, you're part of the problem, pal.

10. Carlin is great, but when he bombs..
he really bombs. A friend of mine worked with some guys that went to see him, and they said that he wasn't even the least bit witty. He jumped on the soapbox from the first moment, and never made the segue into his comedy bit.

Remember what happened to Linda Ronstadt a few months ago when she had something to say in favor of Michael Moore?

12. He must be really tired
His stuff isn't up to his usual standard. There aren't any barriers to break down anymore so he wastes 15 minutes talking about farting. I threw his last book ("..Pork Chops") away it was so bad.
