I'm going to take a break from DU...
Edited on Thu Dec-02-04 11:36 PM by AlFrankenFan
Just to let y'all know. I've been very disappointed in a few here that call themselves Democrats and Progressives. I can't take it with the red state bashing and especially the South bashing. I hope you realize Southerners are people too, and you've offended more than one. I also can't stand the bashing of certain Republicans I have a lot of respect for, because I'm grateful they aren't like the rest. I also can't stand the cries of "oh my god the election was rigged!" Excuse me, but 3.5 million more people voted for him. It's hard to fake that. And I know it hurts - I watched the events unfold that night, I cried during Kerry's concession speech. What I didn't do was sit around and cry fraud. I accepted a legitimate loss and now I'm doing my part to help reform the Democratic party so this won't ever happen again. I also can't believe we're criticizing Democrats like Al Franken and Barak Obama for denying fraud, saying get over it, etc. I've just had an overload and I can't take it anymore. I'll come back when things get a little more sane.

I forgot to include this quote, "We must learn to accept finite disappointment but never lose finite hope." - Dr. Martin Luther King

5. I applaud your convictions AlFrankenFan - I hope that
when the dust settles, you'll come back to DU - you will be missed. We appreciate all you have added to this forum. I hope you change your mind, but I admire your political awareness and conviction at such a young age. Take care.

6. I don't think I've ever posted to you, but one thing before you go...
There's something intensely wrong when anyone in the US has to stand in line for hours and hours to cast a vote.

11. What the hell is up with that? I live in Mississippi, one of the LEAST
progressive states in the union. I'm 50 and have voted in every primary, runoff, and election since 1972.

I have never had to wait 5 minutes, in any precinct inthe state, to vote. Turnout is nearly as high as the rest of the country, but my precincts never require waiting.

12. In Jeb Bush's Banana Republic of Florida
I waited 90 minutes. My mother waited three hours. Other friends waited three hours.

It was like a ride in Disney World where we walked out believing in something that did not exist - democracy.

We may as well have been singing, "It's a Bush world, after all."

And "the majority" sucks beyond belief. I totally bash the red states and every other fucking idiot that voted for *.

13. i've been frustrated as well with the negativity
losing sucks, we are the dangerously disappointed other side, and this mud slinging weakens us. paranoia abounds. i, for one hope you return with fresh ideas, until then, stay safe.

16. If you are a voice of moderation
Then you should stick around and be heard. The squeaky wheels are the loudest, but I would bet that you are not alone in your opinions (which is all we're really talking about here). People come here and state what they feel, it may get on your nerves but it shouldn't chase you away. I hope you'll take a break and gather yourself, but be sure to come back ready to share your opinion and challenge others who may happen to disagree with you.

17. I don't mean to offend you, but how do you know there wasn't fraud?
The point is that these paperless voting systems cannot be verified by anyone.

I do agree that sometimes it gets a bit trying here at DU with the "more liberal than thou" posturing and stereotyping that goes on but I have learned to live with it.

18. You're very mature for 15-more reasonable than most of the adults
on this board. It has been negative around here, so maybe it's a good time to take a break and come back in the new year when the smoke has blown over from the election.

20. I believe there was fraud. I'm glad for those exposing it.
It won't change the outcome of this election, but exposing the fraud may change the outcome of the next election. I don't see election fraud as the main thing to concentrate on. I see countering the right wing media as the most important thing. I could be wrong. Those who see challenging election fraud as the most important thing could be right. As far as making fun of Southerners,Red States,or those who voted Red,I see that as a counter to those making fun of Northerners,Blue States,The Coasts, and those who voted Blue. I live in Nebraska, and think that Nebraskans deserve to be made fun of. As far as leaving goes, people will say all kinds of stupid stuff. Maybe some of the things I've said here are stupid. When I see stupid stuff being posted sometimes I counter it. Sometimes I brush it aside, and start my own better threads. Mostly I ignore the stupid stuff. I am also annoyed by these divisions. Some of those doing the dividing are disruptors, saying anything that might create divisions, and recriminations. We need the reasonable people to stay, and work on things. You could make your workload lighter by letting more of the stupid stuff just go by,without comment. Save your time, energy, and posting for the important stuff. I hope to see you back at work after your vacation.
