why does my TV sometimes have this terrible high-pitched whine?
It's a Sony 27" flat screen (not plasma). We bought it new a little over three years ago. We don't use the TV's sound; we have a stereo system for that.

With growing frequency, this horrible ear-piercing high-pitched whine comes out of the set. Why? How to fix? Thanks.

5. thats the 15 K. tracing tone
the Sony agents use it to warp your mind, naturally it's out of warrenty like my busted t.v.,it is a simple fix,but service comes really expensive now.If you play it thru an amp and other speakers does it make the sound ? It shouldn't, so treat yourself to some cheap powered computer speakers and see if it goes away. That could save you hundreds $$$ and your dog or baby will be happy and so will you. WARNING !!!!! do not watch Fox news even with the sound off it causes brain damage and freeper stupor.

6. My Sony monitor does/did the same thing.
Not sure what causes it. The solution for me was to wedge something underneath the monitor to put pressure on the plastic cabinet/housing. Never bothered to contact Sony as this was a replacement monitor for the first POS that came with my computer. That one had to be sent in at least 3 times (for a video related problem) before they sent me this replacement.
