13. First was a classical concert of some sort at Ravinia
I was maybe 7, and I enjoyed myself immensely. (First rock show was something washed-up at a local fair, I'm sure, because my parents didn't let me go to concert halls or arena shows until I was out of high school.)

Most recent was the Pixies in Milwaukee, a couple of weeks ago.

She was performing at Seattle's "Bumbershoot" Arts Festival back in September.

So, technically, even though it was a "mini-concert", that would be the last live performance that I saw.

111. Yes, it was wonderful. I was on the lawn and got to hear Annie sing
"Here comes the rain again" as rain fell lightly on the crowd that evening in St. Louis. Unfortunately, I missed the first half hour or so of the show, but I still had a great time. :)

70. always leant more toward folk...
Got tickets to CDB from the radio, Molly Hatchett and the works.
I think the second concert I ever saw was John Denver, wish I could have seen Kate Wolf.
Truly - the Nanci Griffith concert was eye opening to me, as a wannabe musician myself, of the way an artist can use a platform in a graceful manner to speak about what matters to him or her. Not a lot of people manage to do it so well.

Black Oak Arkansas in 1973, for which I make no apologies, and last to date, Bobby Rush. That was a good show. Last "name" show I attended was Neil Young earlier this year. I guess Summerfest and Bluesfest don't really count as "concerts" since there are a whole lot of bands.

36. First: Joan Baez, Forest Hills Tennis Stadium, August 1963
That was just before I went off to college. It wasn't normally my sort of thing, but a folkie friend of mine asked if I wanted to go and I said, "Sure." We had tickets for the next to last row and had to guess at what was happening onstage.

After the intermission, Baez brought on some guy I'd never heard of and he sang "Blowin' in the Wind." It was ... interesting.

Most recent, I guess Iris DeMent a couple of years ago. That one was disappointing. I like her voice, but she seemed to be in a terminally depressed mood and sang all her most suicidal ballads. Ah well, you can't win them all.

43. First: Rolling Stones, 1965
At the Manning Bowl in Lynn, MA, a civic stadium that the various high schools play football in.

It was very long ago, and I don't remember much about it, but I do remember that I was disappointed because (a) I was only 12 years old, and short for my age, and everybody in front of me was standing on their chairs and I couldn't see anything; and (b) nothing they played sounded like the records, and at the time I thought that was a bad thing.

I think the last concert I saw was the Willem Breuker Kollektief, a magnificent 10-piece jazz band from northern Europe.

Last: X-Fest 2001... Got to see Nickelback and Sevendust. Oddly, I was really there to see Henry Rollins...In the 80's if there was a "god" Henry Rollins be thy name. I loved Black Flag and I wanted to just "do things" to Henry Rollins. When I saw him in 2k1, I was disappointed, disenchanted and I was left feeling like someone had taken something very dear to me when I was a Kid. Dunno, may be just me.

71. First: Beach Boys, Lovin' Spoonful, Chad&Jeremy, Neil Diamond, and more...
Last... BRUCE!!!!! I've been to one concert on every tour Bruce has ever made.... raised hands and singin' along!

I saw all the major names of the 60s: The Doors, Jimi, Janice, Steppenwolf (4x... I was hovering on groupie status), Santana, Three Dog Night... Chicago... hmmm.... great times.

One of my favorites -- the Eagles during their last big tour about 10 years ago. Hell Freezes Over.

I don't think I've ever been to a concert and not had a good time.
It's all in the perspective.

104. Dang, I just remembered I went to an "oldies" concert
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 10:26 AM by Frogtutor
with my parents just a couple of years ago. We saw Three Dog Night, The Rascals, The Everly Brothers, etc. It was good, but I'd rather remember U2!

Edit: Seems I have a very selective memory; I also just remembered that the first concert I went to was actually Merle Haggard at Billy Bob's Texas!! I went with a friend and her mom when I was 13.

Maybe I blocked that one out; I despise country music now!

aerosmith was a cool first concert...it was 1978 and i was 12 y/o's, back in the sam houston arena in houston...i clearly remember steve tyler stumbling off the stage...i hate saying this, but i wish they would start back on the drugs again...their music has sucked since they sobered up...this aerosmith will never make another toys in the attic.....

109. Yeah, You're Right
The one before that was David Bowie/Trent Reznor, a year or so before the one i mentioned. We had dead center 4th row. But, even then, the hustle and bustle, even on the way to very good, and VERY PRICEY, seats, was getting on my nerves.

The Fixx deal was only in a room that seats, maybe, 1200. That's a lot more tolerable, and Fixx fans aren't going to be doing any stage diving and moshing. So, it was ok.

But, i think i'm mostly done with concerts. It would have to be something extraordinary to get me out of my dungeon.
The Professor

100. embarrassingly,
the first "real" concert I attended was Milli Vanilli when I was in sixth grade . . .

If I skip over that, it was Dylan with my parents.

The last, I think, was Sarah Sarah Mclachlan, but I see local acts pretty often.

.. first concert I positively can say I went to, was Midnight Oil on the Orange stage at Roskilde Festival 1990 (I was 8 at the time & there because both my parents were working as volunteers - a tradition I'm currently upholding on the 7th year).

The last full concert I saw was the Basement Jaxx on the very same stage on 3rd of July this year - you couldn't tell where the rain stopped & the ground started, it was sooo muddy, but the group didn't care and made the whole area dance away. I would have liked to stay and see Fatboy Slim do a DJ gig, but I had a shift from midnight onwards (otoh, we could hear the music just about everywhere). The worst thing at this years festival was, that I had a shift right in the middle of the Pixies gig.
