It's official: I've overdosed on Bruce Springsteen music.
So today I decide to spend a little $10 gift card I had on some music. Innocent enough. I'm a little new to the classic rock genre, but I knew I liked what music of his I'd heard on the radio stations. So I picked up a coppy of "The Essential Bruce Springsteen", because I got 42 tracks of Bruce for less than I would have paid for 10 tracks of AC/DC's "Highway to Hell".

They need to have some kind of warning label on his CDs, like "Warning: These songs will cause severe introspection and a dramatic increase in empathy".

The Rising, 41 Shots, Lucky Town and Jungle Land were new to me (well, The Rising was one of those try it again for the first time things) and I've been listening to all this stuff since early afternoon and it's blowing my mind. The guy's freakin' awesome and his lyrics are so heavy I defy anyone to say as much in a song that's only 4 minutes long. Ya can't! Ya can't do it (as David Chapelle would probably say)!

Back in high school my English teachers would always throw a fit if any of us tried to use song lyrics as poetry. I'd love to march back in there and force them to listen to "The River" and some of these.

Damn.

1. Brooooooce
Thunder Road is his best song. Trust me on this. Also try New York City Serenade and Incident on 57th street.

I had that before on another CD. However I think that Born To Run is even more awesome. If I ever run for office that's going to be one of my campaign songs. Get it? It's a pun... running for office... born to run....?

Ok, so the analogy may be lost on some people who aren't paying attention, but at least it'll pump up the rallies.

On edit: If my English teachers want poetry they can try this...

"Together Wendy we can live with the sadness, I'll love you with all the madness in my soul."

And, "There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away. They haunt this dusty beach road in the skeleton frames of burned out Chevrolets. They scream your name at night in the streets, your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet... and in the lonely cool before dawn, you hear their engines roaring on, but when you get to the porch they're gone on the wind; so Mary climb in... It's a town full of losers, and I'm pulling out of here to win."

5. I get it!
I also get a kick out of repubs that don't get that Born in the USA is a protest song.

6. Yup....those lyrics were the ones that got me

hooked around 30 odd ( very odd) years ago. Seeing him live for the first time in 1978 sealed the deal. I was in love. It has been a long affair..;-)
