1. I respectfully disagree on the following:
MONEY (THAT'S WHAT I WANT), The Flying Lizards (1979)

That song was a great remake!

2. And I will respectfully disagree on the following:
CRY BABY, Janis Joplin (1971)

I LOVE Janis's version of this tune. Then again, I love damn near everything the woman ever sang :).

9. I agree about Janis
Her version of "Cry Baby" was wrenching and heartfelt.

Of course, she was the favorite singer of the all us conventional young girls who wished we could be rebels. I myself was surprised to find out how many of the people in my dorm at a socially conservative Lutheran college cried when Janis died.

"I Think We're Alone Now"
and "I Saw HiM Standing There." Yes, folks, she actually had the balls to change the words from "her" to "him"...don't fuck with the Beatles, missy!

5. Yes!...
the arrangements and vocals has a tinge of Yoko Ono influence which made it sound so cool! I just love it!

4. I'm...
sorry but some you have listed are actually rather good remakes. But so far the worst I've heard is the latest remake of Supertramp's "Give a Little Bit" and Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow TAxi" by the Counting Crows and Sheryl Crow's rendition of "First Cut is the Deepest". "Cry Baby" by Janis Joplin is kick ass blues/rock and the Mamas & Papas rendition of "Dedicated to the One I Love" is a classic in its own right now. But the ultimate worst remake by far and it's so recent is Britney Spear's "My Pregorative"--talk about ruining a really good funky song--that trashy Bush-licking bitch can't sing for sh*t!

7. I heartily disagree on
the Mama and the Papa's "Dedicated". That is the definitive version of that song.

Disagree on James Taylor's "Handy Man" and Johnny Rivers' "Rockin Pneumonia...", and to a lesser extent with Blue Cheer's "Summertime Blues".

8. The Pointer Sisters...
covered "Wang Dang Doodle"?!?!? OMG......

:puke:

Of course, you've also gotta throw in Pat Boone's version of "Tutti Frutti". And if you've ever heard Big Mama Thornton's original "Hound Dog", you'll never think the same of Elvis's version again (she says, putting up the flame shield).
