41 hours since I had a cigarette
If you would shoot me and put me out of my misery, I'd really appreciate it!

2. Hang in there....
After the third day, your cravings should go away (unless you spend a lot of time around smokers... DON'T!!)

11. Married to one
but at least he goes outside to smoke now. I think he's hoping I'll quit and bludgeon him into quitting too.

3. Hang on.
It will get better.

I quit seven years ago. One of the hardest things I ever did, but completely worth it. :-)

27. I had Vets day off and took Monday off
so today has been tough at work. I am accustomed to getting up for a cigarette about 4 or five times a day. On my days off I pretty much stayed in the house and watched tv surfed the web and slept.

At home I have just tried to add a little bit of humor to my outbursts so that my wife knows it's a cigarette thing. She is pretty easy going which helps.

I kinda go Jim Carrey around the house every once in a while to let off steam and get a laugh. It's a lot easier than trying to control it.

5. Woo hoo!
One minute at a time! Keep Tic-Tacs or Altoids in easy reach. Get through the cravings one at a time. You're at the very toughest spot right now -- it's all downhill from here.

7. It gets better soon.
After 72 hours you won't feel the cravings as intensely. Just keep telling yourself: it's not me, it's the disease that wants a cig.

8. 30 years quit
Did it by deep breathing. When I wanted a smoke, I took about ten deep breaths. This would completely take the craving away. Slowly I went from hourly breaths to a couple times a day to no desire in about a week. Really works.

and do the deep breaths. It helps a little. Gnawing my own foot off might help more :)

9. the way I did it
was to commit one day at a time. Today I will not smoke I don't know about tomorrow or the weekend but today I can make it with out one. Now the longer you go the less you like the cigs. One day at a time.

10. Hang in there, the first three days are the worst.
Way to go! You're almost at 48 hours, which will mean you're 2/3rds of the way to 72, which will mean that you're past the three-day hump!

You rock!

And your breath smells so fresh!

12. The Three Day Rule
After 3 days, all habits or lack-therof become easier. Not easy, but easier. After 30 days, you are set, and habits (or changed habits) are complete.

Keep in mind, it is not "cigarettes" that you need to avoid. It is just one cigarette. The first one. Just avoid that first one, and you are fine.

36. If you do start to care,
This sounds kind of weird, but try chewing on stick cinnamon (you know, the raw, unground spice). It tastes good, I don't think it has any calories, and it gives you something to do with your hands and your mouth. I found it helpful!

26. Just get through the next 7, then the next 24, then the 24 after that...
and bit by bit, the hours will pass more easily. I quit last February. I still have cravings, but they are not so frequent or so persistant. Things started to get much better within a week. Within two weeks, I knew I was going to be fine. Keep a straw handy, preferably one about the length of a cigarette. Everytime you get a craving, keep drawing on the straw until the craving goes away. You'll be fine. Good luck!

28. It is possible.
There were people who knew me who were absolutely positive I couldn't quit, I was one of them.

In 10 or 15 years you'll hardly remember what it's like to smoke.

Seriously, the benefits come quickly. You'll notice smells and tastes soon. You'll notice how much better you feel, and that a sore throat all the time isn't normal.

Remember is is possible to drive and talk on the phone without cigarettes. That was one of the hardest things for me, what will I do when , come to find out you don't need to smoke and do those things.

I never realized how much smoking and cigarettes ruled my life until I was free of them. I smoked for 17 years, and I've been quit for 1- 1/2.

Keep up the good work, and hang in there!

The nicotine will be gone from your body after 72 hours. After that, it's all in your head.

DON'T GIVE UP! YOU CAN DO IT!

Fighting fascism requires a strong, healthy nicotine-free body!
