What do DU'ers do? Work, student ,what?---
I'm retired and if the internet was around in my family raising days or my working days I would have been lucky if I could give 2 hours a week to DU.

I see lots of people who are here much of the day and I'm just curious. This is NOT a criticism, just a question.

Thanks!

6. I'm a Domestic Goddess.
Edited on Mon Nov-15-04 12:02 PM by kimchi
Which really means I'm an unpaid housekeeper, gardner, cook, and nanny. Somedays I love it; other days I want to strangle something. I spend quite a few more than 2 hours on DU; because it is my one guilty pleasure. At first my husband wasn't pleased, now he's just glad I didn't choose shopping as my hobby!

on edit: I'm planning to go back to school as soon as DD goes to kindergarden. I'm not continuing in Archaeology; not sure what I want as my second career. A degree in history? Politics, law or McDonald's are good fits!

26. Another Domestic Goddess checking in!
I spend way to much time on DU as well. In between laundry, keeping the house cleaned, running the kids around...

I used to work in social services. I was a case manager for pregnant teens and teen mothers. I gave up my job when I was pregnant with my 2nd son. I might go back to work when my baby goes to kindergarden (2006) but I have become quite used to being a permanent piddler. I have a million projects around my house and garden and just running my kids around is a full time job by itself!

8. self imposed unemployment
I quit working in 2001 because I couldn't stand the way the business was being run. I didn't see any other satisfying opportunities. When Bush* made it clear he was going into Iraq, I vowed not to go back to work until he was out of office.

10. I'm at work...I post while I'm waiting for other stuff...
Like, if I'm on hold (like right now) on the phone, if I'm waiting for a spreadsheet to open, if I'm in the middle of a project and waiting for someone else to do something so I can proceed. It's always running minimized at the bottom of the screen so it takes only half a second to click over.

12. I read and type VERY fast
thus making it easier to be here.

I don't know if the ability to read and type really fast is a good or bad thing, because it does allow me to be here more.

Anyway, I do work full-time, but my job is one of those where I am either NOT here at DU at all or I have plenty of time in front of the computer, rarely in between. For instance, I won't be seen her at all on Wednesday, because I will be at a conference all day.

Tomorrow will be a bit difficult too because I am going to be in and out of my office all day (meetings at other locations).

So it just depends.

as we know that people of all races, social groups and economic status support Democratic principles.

Perhaps the ONE thing all DUers do is to talk over the ideas to attain those principles.

35. I'm a senior Biotechnology/Microbiology major
Just registered for my last semester this morning...Taking a class called NeoDarwinism and its challengers. Should be cool.
I am also a Patient Care Assistant (fancy way of saying ass-wiper) at a local hospital. I do that every other weekend and one other shift a week. And finally, I am doing an internship at a place called the Clinic for Special Children. Its for amish and mennonite kids that have metabolic disorders. he disease I am working on is called Crigler Najjar and it only affects about 200 people world wide. This kids have really high bilirubin levels and have to sleep under UV lights for 12 hours a day...the only cure is a liver transplant. Im sequencing their parents DNA looking for polymorphisms and such and then checking their bilirubin level to see if being heterozygous for this disorder has an effect on bilirubin levels (bilirubin is toxic to the brain...causes you to be jaundiced (yellow)) So, i am crazy busy...yet I still find time to check up on DU at least 3 times a day!

If I had a full-time job, though, all of my leisure time activities (including the gym and the internet) would have to be scaled back.

47. Air traffic controller....I have REALLY odd hours.
My "Monday" could be any day of the week, and it can change every four months. Currently, this is my schedule (in REAL days of the week):

Saturday: 3:00pm to 11:00pm
Sunday: 1:30pm to 9:30pm
Monday: 7:00am to 3:00pm
Tuesday: 6:00am to 2:00pm and then back in at 11:00pm Tuesday night until 7:00am Wednesday morning.

It's a hell of a schedule, but it means my weekends are from 7:00am on Wednesday until 3:00pm on Saturday. :)
