Group Proposal: TV Lounge - Need Ten Members to agree...

Hi everyone. I would like to propose an idea for a new DU group: A TV Lounge group. Per the admins requirements, I'm posting here to the lounge in order to start a discussion on this group.

In order to form the group I need at least ten DU members who agree to be active participants in the TV Lounge. You need to have a donor star in order to participate in the discussion groups.

I propose the following Mission Statement:

The TV Lounge discussion group will be for DU members to talk about their favorite TV shows, movies and sporting events. Weekly discussions about specific episodes, as well as overall discussions about television shows are welcome.

One caveat: Discussions regarding a specific episode must contain the episode's date in the Subject line, and a warning of spoilers if any spoilers are provided in the thread. (i.e. "Arrested Development - 11/14 - *SPOILERS*). Spoiler information should never be posted within a subject line, out of consideration for those in other timelines or with VCR's and TiVo's who may not have already watched the show.


So who's with me? Anyone? DU donors who support this, please chime in! :D

Below are the administrators rules for the formation of a discussion group:

1. Start one discussion thread in the forum of your choice to tell people about your idea for a DU Group.
2. In that thread, you must get responses from at least ten DU members who agree to be active participants in the suggested DU Group. All ten members to respond must have donor stars.
3. In that thread, members must agree on a proposed mission statement for the DU Group.
4. When enough members have signed on to join the group and have agreed on a proposed mission statement, one member must officially suggest the DU Group to a DU Administrator (Skinner, EarlG, or Elad), either by contacting them directly, or by posting in the Ask the Administrators Forum. Please be sure to include a link to the thread where members have discussed the proposed Group.
5. The Administrators will consider the request and make a decision. The Administrators will either 1) Accept the Group as it is proposed, 2) Deny the Group outright, or 3) Ask for changes to the Group or its mission statement which would be necessary for its approval.
6. Once the suggested Group has been accepted by the Administrators, the Administrators will create a new DU Group in the "DU Groups" Category forum, and pin the mission statement of that Group to the top of that Group's forum.

Actually, I think it's essential. Whenever someone starts a television related thread in GD or the Lounge there's always a chorus of, "TV rots your brain!!!" or whatever. I'd love to be able to discuss something as admittedly stupid as 'Survivor' without a fucking lecture. And, yes, this season of 'Survivor' has been the worst ever, but I've been reluctant to even bring it up because of all the self-righteous thread-jackers.

I am a self-confessed TV junkie, and damn proud of it! There is at least one tube on every waking minute at my house.
I leave the one in the office on most of the time, to keep the ghost in there happy.

I am a survivor fan and am sick of getting lectured by people who think any TV is a waste of time, but survivor is for red state dwelling idiot repukes. LIBERALS WATCH TV TOO.

On a side note, This survivor season is weak, but not as bad as Africa. It may be the second worst. The whole "battle of the sexes" did not work last time, why did they do it again?

I pledge to visit this group to discuss Survivor, West Wing and the Simpsons. Once the new HBO season starts, I'm in for Carnival and next summer for the end of the Sopranos.

11. I disagree, not redundant at all...

Not only is there a distinct difference between "Entertainment & Pop Culture" and a TV Lounge, but the frequency and volume of postings about daily TV shows would clutter up the E&PC board.

The difference is that in E&PC you could expect to find gossip and talk about Jennifer Garner dating Ben Affleck. On the TV Lounge, you would find talk about the latest episode of "Alias". Not only would the folks in E&PC probably not appreciate having discourse on the many separate shows that are on each and every evening clogging up their forum, but the TV Lounge folks would be more interested in plot lines and specific discussion about a show - not the latest concert info or celebrity gossip.

Two totally different "markets" as it were.
