I'm writing a cover letter for a "second" job - I can't think of how to
begin.

ANy ideas?

It's for a freelance writing job, could land me an extra $300 a month

Write it like a newspaper headline (In a daring move, XX Company selects (your name) as the next (position)

Or write the first sentence like a cheesey first sentence of a book (It was a dark and stormy night when I sat down at my computer to compose this heartfelt plea to obtain a job from you).

It is risky, but very attention grabbing.
