Movies of a particular decade...
I've been thinking about which movies of a particular decade, sum up the attitude of what people were like in that decade, to a certain extent.

I'll be going with the decades I remember, starting with the 1960's.

1960's-"Medium Cool"
Years before "Network," showed how "media events," especially on TV, became "reality" for us.

1970's-"Earthquake"
Cram as many "big stars" into a film with as lame a plot as possible, and watch everything fall apart.

1980's-"Ghostbusters"
A major city is on the verge of being totally destroyed, and the only people who can "save the day" sound like total idiots.

1990's-"Terminator 2"
Ah-nold, lots of shooting, guns and stuff that goes boom.

1. What about 80s: "Fast Times at Ridgemont HIgh"
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 02:51 AM by jchild
It dealt with social issues that teenagers faced, like drugs, sex, abortion, ticket scalping ( ;-) ) and so forth.

It is one of my favorite movies from the eighties. Even though I am a hetero female, I must admit that Phoebe was HOT in Fast Times. LOL!

2. Movies of the 30's were the most freewheeling
Edited on Mon Jul-07-03 02:52 AM by SoCalDem
Everyone smoked, drank, partied, and generally had a great time..

Lots of black movies were made then too, and with blacks as starring characters (not the maids, butlers,stableboys)..

Lots of liberated women ...women in charge..women in PANTS..

I guess the depression made everyone hungry for the fun they did not have in their lives..

The war put a stop to all of that..

My son used to stay up late with me and sometimes we would watch them.. He always cracked up at how EVERYONE smoked and drank.. His generation grew up with those things as TABOO..

3. Cool Avitar, SoCal!
Didn't mean to hijack the thread, but COOL!

You are right--there are lots of cool movies from the thirties...one I can't remember the title of starred Joan Crawford--she and her husband were in something that resembled an open marriage--forgot the title.
