I Hate Computers
Arrgh- My computer acted up tonight, think it was a virus but not sure. Had to format my system files and basically re-install Windows. Every file I had put on it from the past 18 months is now gone- all mp3's, all pictures I had saved, everything. Oh well, just had to vent. At least I'm back up and running now, and able to get on DU.

1. Some one at DU mentioned that you can buy...
software to retrieve all your lost files. Might be worth the money.

Sorry about the problem you've had. :(

2. Suggestion:
Partition your hard drive and keep one partition exclusively for your MP3's and such. Those files will be safe even if you need to reinstall Windows, unless you get a virus so nasty it wipes out everything... but that's never happened to me and my MP3's are still fine after reinstalling Windows 3 times.

3. If you had AV software proper you would know if you had a virus
now wouldnt'cha. I'm sorry but i don't get why people say they think they have a virus when their computer does something they dont understand. Data Corrupts, and absolute Data corrupts Absolutely. With Computers shit happens, its the nature of the beast. Thats why we do Back ups of stuff we wanna keep. So If you have AV installed check the log to see if you had a virus. Is your software even updated with the latest definitions? OK I guess ive Soapboxed enuff.

4. I love Apple computers
Your next computer should be an Apple.

No viruses, no pop-ups, no spyware.

Apple's OS X is rock solid.

6. that's a myth
There's plenty of software for the Mac.

http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/

I'm so sick of these old myths.
I'm able to do everything I used to do on my PC with my Mac.

Switching is easy... and I don't miss dealing with all the viruses and other
problems that seemed to always bite me in the ass with my PC.

I still use a PC everyday at work. I'm completely capable on both platforms.
I choose to use a Mac at home because I don't want to put up with the
all the problems associated with Windows.

9. Ditto that..
and Windows drives me fucking nuts... Shit, sometimes I think the developers had a competition to see how many clicks they could make me make to do the simplest of task. And WTF is up with the rows of tabs that shift up-and-down? Five different ways to apply the same setting in five different places. AAARRRGGHHH. Normally I don't care but I spent so many hours getting my moms computer to talk to Comcast today.

7. You are correct.
MyDoom has not been ported yet. :-)

We do have a built-in system wide spell-check. That is nifty. :-)

And Final Cut Pro is Cool.

10. We Apple nutjobs go overboard some times.
Sorry. But, you need to start backing-up. I do it daily on a zip disk. And weekly on a CD-R. This is just a part of computers. I always expect mine to die.
