What can you tell me about North Carolina State U?
My niece might get a v-ball scholarship to NCSU but my family and I know next to nothing about the university... anybody have any thoughts, comments, experiences, advice?

Thanks for any input...

1. What does she want to study?

NCSU is known for engineering and veterinary medicine, as well as crop sciences, etc.

They do have a sold English Dept too.

edit: Like Chapel Hill, it's a huge university. Will she like being in a big mix of people? Some kids like smaller schools, at least at first.

4. she'd probably major in English or some other non-math-based
major...

She's from a mid-sized town, but isn't used to huge teeming masses of people. I think if she were part of a team that she could see as her core contacts, she'd be OK.

5. While the English Dept is pretty good
(my officemate is an NCSU grad -- we're both editors) I don't know about other Humanities depts.

NCSU is pretty heavy on the science and math. My mother once went there hoping to major in chemical engineering.

7. thanks, I'll mention that to her..
I don't think she's given too much thought to what she'd like to pursue professionally, but now's a good time to start talking about it, I guess. She's only a jr. so nothing's official, she's just checking out the possibilities.

8. I attended NCSU , and I think Endangered Species is there now .
John Edwards graduated from there too ;)

I personally liked the campus . If she stays on campus I would prefer the center or western residential areas . Student life was good , the food was not so good in the dining hall although you have other places to dine on campus . I was a liberal arts major ( Political Science ) but like someone else said , NCSU is more of Engineering , Science , Computer , Mathematics , and Textile oriented school . Does she know what she wants to major in ? I suggest that she along with her parents tour the campus during an actual week of classes to get the feel if she wants to be there .

9. It's an Ag school in Raleigh N.C.
Two of my cousins and my grandfather went there. I guess it seems pretty good, don't know that much about it academically. I went to a Dead show at Carter Finley Stadium once and had a friggin' blast.
