Please suggest a short, quiet/subdued song to me
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 01:03 AM by bloodyjack
I'm making the greatest mix CD ever and I need something appropriate to immediately follow the 'climactic' track

Edit: also please refrain from LYING

1. Bron-Yr-Aur
2 minutes, instrumental, fades up at the opening. One of my favorite pieces of music. Off of Led Zep's Physical Graffiti

Yep, short, quiet and subdued at it's finest.

17. OK, Seriously...the Epilogue from ELO's Time
BTW, "The Gates of Delirium" was the longest, loudest, most overblown song ever done, AFAIK. Along with pieces like "Close to the Edge" "Yours is No Disgrace", classic Yes was virtuoso progressive rock at it's finest.

10. Unlike post #5, above, I was actually being serious.
Yeah, the first 20 minutes of the song are absolute chaos, but the ending is about as close to a complete 180 as you can get. If you haven't heard the whole song yet, please do so and see if you don't agree with me about the last 3 minutes or so.

16. We're talking about 1970's progressive rock here.
Yes, Genesis, Van Der Graaf Generator, Emerson Lake & Palmer... those bands and others were the ones who took progressive rock, and the vinyl format, to the limits by creating multi-part songs that would fill an entire side of an LP. If a symphony can go on for well over 20 minutes, why can't a rock song that borrows heavily from classical influences? :)

But I'm kinda old. Haha

I picked it because the beginning sounds kind of chaotic....Like the ending of the "climactic" song, then it mellows.

15. no, see, the 'climactic' track is fairly 'mellow'.
it's this sweet, stripped-down version of Bowie's "Let's dance" by M. Ward. Strongly, STRONGLY recommended.

so, there's my problem: I need something even MELLOWER

Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 01:36 AM by tjdee
I think it's about a minute or two? Just Edie and a guitar.

People pointing
fingerpainting the world
leaving me their silhouette of my life

And I'm
filling in the negative space
with positively everything

I do
I do
And it's all because of you

It's not emotion I feel for you
It's not devotion I want from you
I want someone to follow
Who doesn't lead the way
I want someone to listen
who won't repeat what I say

And I'm
filling in the negative space with positively everything

I do
I do
And it's all because of you

for a dreamy, mysterious New Age-y sound, how about: "The Cross Of Changes" or "The Dream of the Dolphin" both by Enigma.
