Any evil DUers catch HBO's Carnivale?
What a creepy and cool show! I was a huge Twin Peaks fan and this show was giving me flashbacks to that; it even had the little person from TP as one of the "carnies" (he's my favorite character so far).

I taped it and will have to watch a few more times to really get it, but my initial impressions are just...wow. It feels like somebody mixed The Stand with Twin Peaks and added a pitch of American Gothic. And it's really good.

Those that missed it and like quirky, weird, fantasy-esque shows I highly suggest you check out one of the inevitable repeats. The basic gist of it is that it revolves around a traveling carnival in 30s dust bowl Oklahoma. This mysterious guy who's down on his luck ends up travelling with them, and he has some weird powers. There's also a very creepy preacher in California who looks like he might be connected to this guy.

Excellent show!

1. AWSOME!!!! Original and fresh.... A reverse Something Evil This
Way Comes with major dramatic teeth!

The Dustbowl scenes were filmed beautifully. Well scripted with solid characters and it left me wanting more. I was about to drop HBO, but I'll keep it for this and K-Street.

Feel safe.
Ashcroft watches over us all.

2. Kudos To HBO
This is why they're the dominant force in American entertainment. This show is completely unlike their other shows which are about gritty modern reality like The Sopranos, The Wire, and Six Feet Under. This show is a 1930s period piece about mysticism, good and evil, and the dark arts. It's so unlike any of their other shows. Brilliant!

3. Very intriguing . . .
I hope it holds up. I'll be watching, especially since K Street follows it.

So what do you think they are going to say about religion?

4. "Beware of wolves in sheep's clothing."
The first scene with the preacher and the dustbowler was chilling.

I think that they are going to try and make a statement about the inherent spirituality in humanity over religion.

5. Is David Lynch actually involved with this show?
And, if so how? That is what I had heard but wasn't sure. I had meant to try to catch it and tape it...especially if the DL connection was true, but I forgot. :( I'll have to catch one of the repeats...

6. No, but there are comparisons with Twin Peaks...
Partially due to the Fellini-esque feel and the inclusion of Michael J. Anderson as Samson whose role is far more human than the little person speaking backwards in TP.

I also wonder if the name "Jim Hawkins" was chosen for its proximity to "Jim Hawkins" of Treasure Island.

Unfortunately, this is only a 12 week run.
