Prayer in public schools petition *gag* it's starting already..
I just got this via email (from the same woman who sent me the list of ALL the wonderful things going on in Iraq - schools, water, blah blah).

Please help me form a response. I really want to get off her email list of this crap. It's going to be a tough enough 4 years - I usually just delete these things, but I'm done. Friendships be damned - no more of this shit!

>>Dear President Bush:
>>Many of us were deeply touched to hear you recite a portion of Psalm 23 in
>>your address to this great nation in the dark hours following
>>the terrorists attacks. We were encouraged and comforted to know that
>>we truly had a believer working with us and for us in our nation's
>>highest office. We, the people of America, are requesting that you lift
>>the prohibition of prayer in schools. As the pledge of our great
>>country states, we are to be One nation, under God." Please allow the
>>prayers and petitions of our children in schools without the threat
>>of punishment. Currently, adults and children in the school are
>>prohibited from mentioning God unless of course His name is uttered as
>>part of a curse or profanity. Madeline Murray O'Hare is dead. Let her
>>legacy of atheism in our schools die with her!

>>do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."

3. You might want to remind her
that 'prayer' was never taken out of the schools. There's no way anyone can stop anyone else from praying for that is a private thing. As long as there are math tests, there will be prayer in school.

What was stopped was FORCED prayer. Which even the Council of Churches supports. Your prayer is not my prayer and any prayer purporting to be generic enough not to offend any religion becomes no prayer at all...just words to be mumbled.

4. I'd say let them reinstate prayer in schools. The issue will be:
Just which prayers? There's more than one, you know. I envision the many denominations going to war over what prayer is going to be said by whom and when. It's gonna be an interesting battle. These types should be careful what they pray for--they might get it!

As an aside--what prevents kids from praying in school now? I used to do a lot of it--right before tests, usually! That's an old joke, I know, but my point is, I always thought God heard our prayers whether silent or spoken. I'm awfully tired of so-called Christians insisting on shoving their "religion" down others' throats and then crying and moaning about how "persecuted" they are when someone takes issue with them.

5. THERE IS NO PROHIBITION OF PRAYER IN SCHOOLS!!!
What do these mother fuckers NOT understand???

ANYONE CAN PRAY IN SCHOOL!!!!

BUT teachers, administrators and other agents of the state CANNOT LEAD KIDS IN PRAYER.

That is a blatant violation of the establishment clause and unconstitutional as HELL.

What is their major malfunction? If they want fucking prayer all the time, led by teachers, then let them send their kids to a parochial school/religious private school, for crying out loud.

They do NOT seem to understand they are NOT victims and there is NOTHING STOPPING THEIR KID FROM PRAYING IN SCHOOL.

He could bust out a prayer rug, face east, hit the ground and start praying to Allah and no one would stop him.

He could meditate in the morning, hell here in TX, there is an enforced one minute of silence JUST for prayer and meditation if anyone so pleases.

Hell's bells. This cult of the Christian as Victim is getting mighty old with me. How can they be fucking victims in a country like THIS?????

(In the interest of full disclosure I am a Christian. Granted I have a potty mouth at times--well really potty fingers, as I don't even talk that way. But I am sick to death of this shit.)
