What have been your party preparations?

Despite being a poor starving college student, I spent ~$100 on alcohol this weekend for the gathering I'm having at my hovel. Coconut rum, tequila, amaretto, whiskey, vodka, Goldschlager, TripleSec, Guinness, and Strawberry Daquiri wine coolers.. I'm READY.

Then, I have printed-out portraits of the four liberal Supreme Court justices; they're now sitting on the mantle over the fireplace. (I like having Ruth Bader smiling at me all day.. such an angel!)

Next, there are my super-superstitious Swing State candles sitting in front of the fireplace. One for each state, 8 in all. Each one is to be lit when Kerry wins it.

I also have strung-up blue Christmas lights all over my living room. (Electoral Blue is the official color for this get-together. Even the underwear I have on is blue, lol!) My tiny backyard is lined in blue strung lights as well. Very festive!

Next, a poster-sized Electoral Map that I got at Teacher Haven. We'll be coloring-in each state as it is called. I also have a Russert-style inkboard to keep a tally running. (I love love love playing the role of "pundit!")

The kitchen table is lined with the alcohols. As a surprise touch, my four friends who are coming over will each be surprised with their own Kerry-Edwards shot glass, lol! I especially like the deep blue with gold lettering design that they came in..

My puppy and kitty have been bathed, combed, clipped, and donned with BLUE collars. (my akita, Jake, tells me that he has switched from Nader to Kerry this year.. even though we're in Texas..) :P

And to greet my guests as they arrive? A poem, posted on my front door: Ozymandius. About how the mightly have fallen and are now ruined.

I've been waiting a looong, long time for this night. Even though my place is tiny, I wanted to do this with a bang. (that, and it was a great excuse to clean my home..) For a polysci junkie, this is the SuperBowl, the Olympics, and the World Series all wrapped-up into one hectic and harrowing night. So I wanted to do this right.

Are you ever prepared!?!?! A few of us are going out to hear some live jazz. Have a few pitchers of beer. Then, we'll get home around 11 or so and turn on the tv. I can't handle the nail-biting watching of the returns. Probably have to have a few more beers before bedtime.
