I think ignorant is a more apt description. They get information from corrupted sources and don't know any better. In part because of the time it takes to research, and in part because they (we) are conditioned to believe what we see on TV and read in the paper.

A smart person can be ignorant of the facts. I believe many people can not believe that the administration would lie to their faces. Family members have told me, "oh, the government wouldn't do that". I think that is willful ignorance and staying ignorant is stooopid.
