The regular rooms are like a big apartment, and the penthouses have loft bedrooms, two bathrooms, full kitchens, and a living area. They're not too bad, the biggest room is like $150 a night. And the people are super nice.

The Haywood Park Hotel in Asheville NC. Not for being the fanciest. There are far more expensive but... They have the finest service, like royalty. They bring you killer coffee or tea at any hour of the night free!!! Chocolate fetish truffles on your pillow after they turn down your bed. Real five star treatment. Plush carpet, big antique rooms w/ luxury whirlpool bath with TV and phone, I love that place man. Sweet stuff.

Unbeliebably beautiful.

Spritzer boys by the pool who walk by with aersol Evian to spray your face.

The maid service magically knows when you leave. We'd go out for a swim at 6:00am and be back at 7:00am and the room would be made up.

The bookmark in the TV guide is moved forward every day so it falls open to today's listings.

Did I mention Spritzer Boys?

My father-in-law and his third wife treated their families to an all-expense-paid week at this beautiful resort. I didn't golf, but did get a back rub at the spa. I'd like to live there... but can't really afford the $650 per room per night (for starters). Clint Eastwood is one of the owners. I didn't see Clint, but my father-in-law looks a little bit like him.

32. The Conrad in Istanbul and the Astoria in St. Petersburg, Russia
Edited on Mon Oct-18-04 09:37 PM by Flaxbee
The Conrad was heavenly, but I appreciated it oh so much more after having been in Egypt and some rather questionable hotels in Cairo and Luxor right before we flew into Istanbul... The Astoria in St. Pete's is also really quite wonderful. Amazingly comfortable beds. We'd done a mid-rate hotel in Helsinki, where I trusted the rooms to be fine (and they were) in not-too-costly hotesl, but the previous trip to St. Pete's the room was full of fucking flies (literally) and bird-sized mosquitos, so I insisted that the second time in St. Petersburg was going to be first rate. The Astoria is terrific.

In the US, the Hay-Adams in DC is pretty nice. Stayed there once in the 90s when my aunt visited and footed the bill.

edited for clarity

42. Okay, we're weighing in
DH travels a lot on business. The nicest he's ever stayed in: The Magnolia in Houston, TX.

The nicest hotel I've ever stayed in (again, with DH,): It's a tossup between the Hotel Monaco in San Francisco and Snoqualmie, WA's Salish Lodge. The Salish Lodge is, without a doubt, the most expensive hotel I have ever stayed in.

Our favorite hotel is Kirkland, WA's Woodmark.

56. The Davenport in Spokane, Washington
It was the very best hotel in Spokane for about 80 years, then it was closed and sat empty; a few years ago a group of investors bought the building, sank millions into renovating it, and it's once again the best hotel in Spokane.

It was also the hotel that had the contract to house the people joining the military, mainly because it was within walking distance of the military entrance and processing station.

68. There are two - the San Francisco Marriott
downtown, and the Alexis, a boutique hotel in downtown Seattle. The service at the Alexis was phenomenal - you never left your room without finding a valet waiting with your car at the door, they brought us champagne and chocolates for our anniversary, things like that. The Marriott was the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in - amazing views, a beautiful room, wonderful room service - I could live at a place like that quite happily.

About 2 hours south of PV, Mexico.

The most wonderful place in the world. No electricity. Candles are lit in your room while you dine on local seafood, magoes, and avocados.

While sitting on the beach, mangoes appear in a bowl next to you, like magic.

Incredibly friendly people. Lagoon. Sea turtles.

My husband and I have talked about going back many, many times.

I was on my honeymoon in 1961, but I hear it's just as fabulous today. I remember the fresh pineapple in the room. It looked whole, but was actually all sliced up inside. There was a balcony with an ocean view overlooking tropical gardens with tree toads that sang at night. There was also an old fort out back on the water, and a dock with lights that shone in the water at night so that you could see the big fish – barracudas among them.

Frickin' amazing rooms, with a bathroom bigger than my entire living room at the time. And that's not even counting the outdoor hot tubs attached to the water park where you could drink beer in total comfort as snow came down and melted on your head. VERY cool!!

Both of these were from my honeymoon, just over a year ago.

The Portobello Hotel in London, where my wife and I stayed in the same room as Johnny Depp, though not at the same time. There was a round bed and a huge bath, which Depp and his ladyfriend, whoever it was, had filled with thousands of pounds' worth of champagne. A maid, apparently, had entered the room while they were out, and, thinking it was gross brackish water, emptied the tub.

The Hotel Niza in Grenada. It was great!
