8. ooooh ooooh oooooh
how much would you (or someone of your talents) charge to tutor someone (me) from the ground up in building a web page for e-commerce purposes. i have zip knowledge of how to build a web page, but am stumped by Creating Web Pages for Dummies. no kidding. i got front page at a friend's recommendation since i wouldn't have to learn html right off. any suggestions?

didn't mean to hijack this thread but the timing was right there :=)

12. I don't know
I've helped a lot of buddies set up easy sites, like this one

http://www.escapetheokiezone.com

You don't need any HTML knowledge, just how to log into blogger and post your stuff. And buy your own domain.

I've just learned about PHP and it's changed the way I do everything. On pages like this

http://www.hereinreality.com/funny_pictures (sorry for pimping my sites!)

you just upload a whole folder, change the logo, then you just start uploading photos! If I would have known about this years ago I would have saved thousands of hours. I paid for my first php script ($35) then I found out you can get them free all over the place like http://www.hotscripts.com

Front Page 2000 is what I generally use, thought it to be a miracle and still do. I strongly recommend learning HTML, it's the only way you'll be able to fiddle around with templates (like at blogger and the php scripts).

This is what kind of moron I was the first year I was building websites, I didn't know how to copy and paste, I used to write long bits of HTML and long urls down on paper, and then type it in manually. Honest to God! I've got notebooks full of that stuff that I saved for laughs. I'd always see those options like "copy" and "paste" when I'd right-click, but wasn't really sure "what they did".

makes me think there's actually hope for someone like me!

thanks for all the info. could you recommend a host if i want to sell stuff from the site? and would you recommend taking courses to learn the html and web design or can it be done on your own? thanks. looks like this could be a lot of fun actually.

27. Couple of different ones
I've got my main site on ehostsource.com It costs, I think, $89 a year including the domain but you get front page extensions, mySql (PHP database stuff I'm just learning about), everything like that. There's never been anything on ehostsource that I've wanted to do that I haven't been able to.

Most of the rest of my stuff is at Doteasy.com They offer free hosting if you buy the $25 domain. Can't get too much traffic, though, no front page ext., can't run php scripts etc. It's excellent for start-up sites, though. Hannityisamoron.com is hosted there, but I always get "traffic warnings".

I've got a dirty joke site at Netherweb.com , they let you do adult there. You can't even link to adult content on the other hosts.

I've only used a PayPal shopping cart, which works easily even on a free host like http://www.freehomepages.com

13. Matcom...I've got a question for ya.
Any recommendations on a good, low cost Host..(low cost= 8 dollars or less per month).

I did a web site for a lady and used "Registerfly" ....2 weeks after signing up, the site went down .....stayed that way for 6 days....the site came up last week....this week one of their Servers caught fire (Really!)

I've been using "Ipowerweb"....I guess I should have stuck with them.
Anyway...anybody you truly like??

22. i use a company in NC
PM me if you want the name

i pay $49.95/month but each domain is only $3.95/month

i charge more than that but have about 40 clients so it more than pays for itself. you gotta get to that point though to cover the monthly server fees.

its one of the largest and best in the country though

28. Ehostsource.com
Can't say enough good things about them, they've never done me wrong.
$89 a year w/domain $69 without but you have to pay for the whole year upfront.

I pay about 8 bucks a month at netherweb.com monthly, but I'm not sure how much traffic I can have there so I keep my main site at ehostsource. The traffic allowance seems to be endless.

17. Wish I could help you, pal!
I'm trying to develop a network of people who build websites for whatever reason. In my real life, I talk politics with everybody. On the internet I talk politics with everybody, and don't really have anybody that shares my web-building interests. I don't post much in webmaster forums (but I read 'em!) because, just like everywhere but here, too many freepers!

Besides, I'd like to know some webmasters to steer people to when people to ask me to build websites because I get webmaster block when I try to do stuff for people for money. I put up a category in the directory on my site under "webmasters" for "webmasters for hire" so post in there or leave your link here!

32. Do you build websites?
I just do my own stuff and sell advertising like Google Adsense and Fastclick, but I hear that the going rate for web designers is, like, $50 bucks an hour! I have to remind my boyfriend of that from time to time when he complains about me "playing" on the computer.

I'm just now starting to make decent money from my websites. I didn't want to at first, but after Bush came into office and especially after 9-11 I started doing some political stuff and building more sites, and it was becoming an expense, and every day I was getting nothing but rude, hate-filled freeper mail, and I said, "I'll be damned if I'm going to spend good money to be subjected to this kind of abuse!"

The sad thing is, I'm afraid to put any advertising on Hannityisamoron.com because I worry about freepers getting my accounts canceled, so I just try to steer people to my real website. 98% of that traffic is people looking for "Sean Hannity Pics"
yuck!

Some of his fans wanted to put up a site for him, and asked me to do it. Fulvio sent me an autographed photo as thanks. It's been fun and rather exciting, as he's branched into producing, and has been showing his film "The Regular Guy" at film festivals.
