Who do you find sexy and why?
I had a discussion/argument tonight with some of my family, after I had mentioned that the typical blond haired/blue eyed girl doesn't really do that much for me.
But it did get me wondering as to what, why and who other people find sexy.

I am sure a topic like this has been done before (probably several times), but being relatively new I have missed, and I'm curious to know what people on DU think.

So, who do you find sexy and why?
Is it your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend? possibly your neighbor? a co-worker? or someone famous?

4. Sure glad I have green eyes then. Actually, here's my wish list...
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 07:58 AM by SarahBelle
(I'm fussy and some folks on another site accused me of wanting my own doppelganger in a sense. Hardly, I just know what I want and what I like. Qualities I like turn me on way more than any celebrity I don't know.)

Sarah's almost impossible wish list of sexiness:

1. He's male, politically left of center, funny, introverted, but not shy.

2. Extremely intelligent, but unpretentious at the same time about it. A person who is always surprising me with his knowledge base and won't get intimidated by my vocabulary because his is even better (but he won't necessarily point that out either).

3. Someone who is that blend of spiritual, but not religious. He knows that what we see isn't all there is, but at the same time is open and not dogmatic about any one belief system in particular.

4. Someone who doesn't drink or drinks very little and is so not into drugs that if he has a headache, he'd rather grab a handful of almonds than take an aspirin. He is wholistic about health and wellness, but not because he's 'recovering' from anything (BTDT before), but because it's just who he is.

5. Someone who works hard, but not because he is seeking to pursue material things to impress the rest of the world, but because it's who he is and he has an intrinsic motivation to succeed.

6. Someone who works in something to serve the rest of humanity-- either on a personal or global level.

7. Someone who is a feminist (and truly understands what that means in an egalitarian sense), yet everytime he sees me, he lusts after me so much he can barely keep his hands off me.

8. Someone who has compassion, empathy, and patience, but is not afraid to fight and stand up for something either physically or verbally when necessary.

9. Someone who is very sexually open, but at the same time able to be monogamous and prefers it in fact.

10. Someone who's also had experience in a long term relationship and understands just what that can mean, both good and bad.

11. Someone who sees the things in me that make me me-- both good and bad-- including my insomnia, my emotionalness (is that a word?), the fact I'm so overly analytical about everything (hee-hee :7), my need for space sometimes, etc..... and still likes me for who I am.

And the bonus section (bonus, just physicalities, not necessities):

He's tall, not too skinny, but not exactly 'fat' either (I'm thinking 5'11"-6'6", 180-220lbs, reasonably fit, but plastic perfection not required), has all his hair (color doesn't matter and that's definitely negotiable), maybe some facial hair (either a mustache or mustache and beard combo), and preferably between the ages of 37 and 47.

on edit:

Since most people seem to be adding celebrities, I'll add my pick of Tim Robbins or Richard Gere. They seem to fit both the internal and external qualities I like. I like Colin Firth too, but I admittedly know less aboout his politics.

10. Exactly...
More than what most men see or have wanted to give me in return. Too often in life, I've been noticed or appreciated for physical attributes by those who could give a rat's ass about who I was on the inside, who I really am, or what I thought. I'd much rather be by myself at this point in life than settle for anything less than what I want.

and there is no point in settling for less than what you want just to be in a relationship, because you wouldn't be happy and I doubt the relationship would last.

He's a bit of a curmudgeon these days, but he's a Dem who's very far left- voted for Nadar last time (but we're a solid blue state, so that's ok) and I think Clark in the primaries. He was even a delegate in past years. He's very single (well, divorced for many years). He lives near Hartford, CT.

91. I don't know.
He's 5'7", a little chubby, blue-grey eyes, sort of bald (grey/dark blonde), sort of looks like Phil Collins. I don't know if he's looking. As far as I know, since he and my mom were divorced in 1992 (they were actually married and divorced to each other twice), he's only dated one person. He never talks about it and is really shy. I love to see him find someone and being happy because he's a very kind, caring man, but it's been a rough few years for him over the last 5 or 6 years. He's an attorney (but not a rich one) and lost his job in part due to him asking ethics questions about no-bid contracts I believe at the former state agency he worked for. Somehow I think there was pressure to get rid of him from people who worked for our former Repuke governor (John Roland, who was actually kicked out of office for corruption) and has since not gotten anything full-time, so now he does consulting work when he can. You might say my family has been directly affected by Republican corruption. :(

79. SB, you've hit nearly every point on my "resume!"
Except the age -- at 55, I'm nearer your dad's age. But no need for a walker and soft, bland foods just yet -- I swim and work out (it's my "spiritual" time) and am in good shape. Alas, I'm married, and I am indeed monogamous.:( Oh, the final "miss" is that I'm thinning a bit on the crown, but at 6'5", not many people can see it! :)

I totally understand insomnia, as a "night-owl" myself. And the need for space is a given. I would let you be you, if I could be me.

Your joy will come, in time -- I had to wait until I was about age 44 until I met my soulmate. Prior to that, I never had a relationship that lasted longer than three-four years. Although I still think very fondly of the women with whom I have been privileged to share so much.

So keep your eyes to the skyline, there are no doubt many fine gents who will fit most, if not all, of your criteria.

You've got it goin' on though. I've seen your picture! :7 But you are married and it's sounds like quite happily at that. (You're a lucky dude.) Actually, I know someone who fits these qualities who appears to like me a bit, but neither of us are in any hurry to rush anything given a lot of mutual circumstances.

I've come to terms with being alone for the most part for the next few years. I have a lot to do- mainly finish nursing school, work, take care of kids, and get this divorce thing finalized while "attempting" to be as amicable as possible with the soon-to-be ex. Not that I will be content to sit by myself in a rocking chair and never date anyone (which I'll still be fussy about), but as far as anything major again (like cohabitation or more), it'll be awhile. :)

As for reality - My hubby is tall, of British descent (like me), intellectual, shy, and a troubled genius who makes a very nice living which allows me to work part-time and pursue my writing. He is also the kindest, most patient man on the face of the earth. He tolerates my kids better than I do sometimes. And he's a kick-ass math tutor to them. More than anything, he gives me the one thing that any human needs from their lover - the knowledge that I am loved totally and unconditionally. And that's majorly sexy.

My Fiancée is raven haired and fair but exactly my height. The first girl who wasn't shorter than me that I find to be the sexiest ever.

I don't like skinny women, I like women with some meat on their bones, and chubby is cute as hell. I prefer bustier women but as long as their real it is not a problem.

liking more than one kind of woman is revolting. You flip-flop from dark skinned to light, red head to blond. My god, you may even flip from a good christian girl to a heathen atheist or worse, a muslim woman.

Vote republican and we'll make flip flopping between the types of girls you like illegal. If we find out some other country harbors people with different tastes in women, we'll invade.

(I hope you can read the sarcasm here, but just in case, I AM KIDDING. Sorry for the rant, but I just had a difficult conversation with a freeper in my office and I needed to vent).

20. I don't like blue-eyed blondes, either.
Or blondes in general.

My preference, physically, anyway, seems to be: jet-black hair, 5' to 5'6, grey, green or dark eyes, (relatively) pale, with things like intelligence and personality being more important than weight (up to a point) and breast size (the obsession with which I don't get, anyway).

Janeane Garofalo, for instance, I find extremely sexy. The bleach job is a bad look for her, though.

1. Brilliantly intelligent and funny as hell are at the top of the list. If you can make me laugh, you are halfway to getting into my pants. :) But you have to make me REALLY laugh--like gasping for breath, tears running down face laughing.

2. Blonde wavy hair and the most gorgeous blue-green eyes in the history of the world.

3. Built like a MAN--broad shoulders, big thighs, flat hard stomach, big strong hands with callouses.

4. Um. Big. Yep. That's all I'll say there. Big all over.

5. TALL. And no fat.

6. Love to cuddle.

7. Into music, books, politics, just like me. Can converse for hours on these topics without losing interest or running out of opinions.

I've never had a "type." To me, it's more about the way someone interacts with me. My old man and I have been together for almost five years, and the sexiest thing about him is that he treats me exactly the same way (attentive, kind, and loving) whether we're alone or in a room full of people.

29. Women have so many things sexy about them that..
it's hard to limit is to one thing. I find sexiness in all hair colors, races, body types, heights, etc.

I tend to really go for combos of cute and beautiful - and with celebs, I go for ones I can imagine being in a relationship with.

Here's my latest crush list to help you decide:

Katie Holmes
Colleen Haskell
Morgan Webb
Alyssa Milano
Scarlett Johansson
Rachel Bilson
Natalie Portman
Jennifer Garner
Salma Hayek
Thandie Newton
Claire Danes
Eliza Dushku
Reese Witherspoon
Amanda Peet
Ali Larter
Jennifer Connelly
Kaley Cuoco
Hilarie Burton
Kim Smith
Amber Tamblyn
Keira Knightley
Sharon Case (plays Sharon on Young And The Restless)
Aubrey Dollar (ex-Marina - Guiding Light)
Deborah Zoe (ex-Eden on Guiding Light)
Lauren Woodland (plays Brittany on Y&R)
Ashley Jones (former Meg on Y&R)
Michelle Branch
Jenny Lewis (singer)
Bree Sharp (singer)
Andrea Corr

HM: Danneel Harris (soap actress,) Stephanie Gatschet (soap actress,) Lindsey McKeon (ex-Marah - Guiding Light,) Alicia Silverstone, Mandy Bruno (soap actress,) Mandy Moore, Marisa Tomei, Amy Acker, Rosario Dawson, Elisha Cuthbert

I currently don't have a steady relationship with anyone, but I should have the time to look more before long.

39. Nerds
More specifically, tall, dark haired nerds. Literate ones. But math geeks rev my engine as well. Actually, intelligence in general is sexy IMO... as long as its grounded in my sort of ethics and not some Machiavellian BS. Oh, and they have to be dominating.

Tall, dark-haired, Italian, and a computer science major/mathematics minor. I would qualify in most books as a geek.

Geeks are good though, for it is they who shall inherit the earth (and the software companies.)

I do NOT get what the difference is between geeks/nerds/dorks.

109. Well...
I always think of "dork" as implying extreme social and sartorial awkwardness. A dork isn't necessarily smart.

"Nerds," on the other hand, are just really intensely and joyfully interested in "academic" things like literature, math, science, computers, music, history, language, etc. They are smart and don't try to hide it.

I don't know about "geeks." I guess they would fall somewhere in between. Maybe nerds who are a little bit dorky. ;)

actually a few of these lists do. I am lucky, I guess.

but he's not dominating, though. Kind of mellow, mostly.

I have always liked tall guys - I used to have a thing for blonde and red headed men in my youth, but for some reasons it was all about the dark hair as I got older. Love those big, kind of cuddly, tall, smart, funny liberal and literate guys who like punk and other forms of music, esoterica and sci-fi.

55. I find my husband incredibly sexy
He's just what I look for in a man. Tall, I like tall men. Broad shoulders, great back, muscular arms. Nice butt. Great profile, straight nose, glorious smile, smile crinkles around his eyes. Soulful brown eyes. Dark hair, just a bit on the chest (don't like real hairy men but I don't like waxed men either).

He's a carpenter and I love men who work with their hands. I don't really care for the work-out-at-the-gym look - I like REAL muscles that come from lifting and throwing and twisting and sweating on the job.

Oooh, I wish he was home now. I'd jump his bones!

71. That's easy :)
Tall - light eyes - hair color optional (three of the sexiest men I have ever met in my life one was blonde - one brunette - and a redhead)

A sense of humor - passion (I love a man who likes to have heated discussions)

He must have a beard - MUST! I likes 'em fuzzy.

Most importantly - he must have some grey in his beard some lines on his face and a little extra around the middle. To me it shows this man has some experience under his belt - and that is VERY sexy.

Mr. CO Liberal fits the bill completely. He's the sexiest redhead I've ever met.

I am very tall, pale, and thin, so short dark full-bodied women drive me crazy. My girlfriend is of Arab descent and looks a bit like the abovementioned... Her favorites are (female) Salma Hayek and (male) Eric Stoltz, Al Pacino, Liam Neeson. She is more particular physically about women--they must have large breasts--but she seems to like a range of men (though they must be tall and in no way effeminate).

I'm afraid I like the young, skinny type but I hope it's OK since I'm a woman and by "young" I mean 25 or 30 or so.

I feel that mature (older or middle-aged) men are pushed too much at women, and I have little interest in them as sex objects. Perhaps you have a similar issue with blonde, blue-eyed "babe" types being pushed at you.

Once you get to know someone, all bets are off, but I assume you are talking about immediate physical "types." In real life there is nothing like an interlocking fetish to make the sparks fly. :-)

(1) I have always considered women in their mid-30s to late 50s to be so mature, so attractive, so sexy and so appealing. This is a characteristic in my preference for women that has endured since about the time I was eight or nine years old. There is just so much about a woman in the above age bracket that appeals to me and, in fact, almost all the crushes that I have had in my lifetime have been on women from that age group. I think this may also partially be due to the fact that I have often found that I am able to relate to them on an intellectual level and I have forged a considerable number of friendships with people in that age group. People like Susan Sarandon and Beth Broderick really turn me on

(2) I’m attracted to women who are artistic and/or creative in their lifestyles and who are employed in a professional capacity -for example doctors, lawyers, teachers, librarians, female politicians, artists, businesswomen, university lecturers, professors and so on. Some of my earliest crushes were on female Senators or politicians. I am attracted to women who are intellectually enlightened, who are deeply philosophical and thoughtful in their views on life and current affairs and who are moderate in terms of their political views -I would not rule out a relationship with someone who is a conservative but she’d have to be a Nelson Rockefeller type of conservative. And I like women who are prepared to challenge the status quo in terms of views on politics and other social issues -who can help me see the other side of the story and who can debate me and perhaps change me in my way of thinking if the arguments are convincing enough

(3) I like women who are or have been professionally employed and who have a deep interest in their career. I am also attracted to women who are well-traveled (although this not a necessity) and who are willing to explore new horizons and perspectives

(4) I'm very attracted to single mothers but I also very attracted to single women and divorced women. It doesn't really matter to me

Some of my celebrity crushes include
(1) Beth Broderick
(2) Susan Sarandon
(3) Mary Kay Place
(4) Andrea Thompson
(5) Two Australian politicians who I know quite well but will not name
(6) Kim Campbell-former PM of Canada
(7) Catherine Callbeck -former Premier of Prince Edward Island (Canada)
(8) Jennifer Garner and Janel Moloney -the only two who are relatively close to my age group
(9) Sally Field

121. Since you asked and I need to confess
I've always liked dark men, but married a pale man, for love. Then he moves me to the Middle East, on a university campus. AAAHHHH! The gorgeous dark young men in Arabic dress or even western dress, the Indians with those fantastic eyes, the Sri Lankan gardeners in the yellow suits who work all day around my apartment....they drive me wild. I go up to the student center and drool. It's probably a good thing I'm not attractive anymore. And that I'm shy. I could be the scandal of the campus if I weren't so inhibited.

123. Lots of people!!!
I find lots of people sexy! I love my partner and think he is attractive and can be sexy! I also know that those feelings are because I love him so much!

I do find other people sexy. Sometimes it is physically, sometimes for other reasons. I find well-built men very sexy, especially dark-haired men! Tom Welling!!! YUM!!! And, I may be queer as a 3 dollar bill, but I find long-haired women very sexy! LUCY LAWLESS! Sometimes the attitude makes a "plain" person even more sexy. Sometimes a sexy person opens his/her mouth and then they are not as sexy!

Brightest Blessings!

124. Turn-ons
Men: I love a "white collar" clean-cut looking man. Even though I dress every bit the hippie chick, mangy hippie guys do absolutely nothing for me, no matter how much we agree on politics. Unkept hair and scruffy beards are a no-no.

I love it when a man never has to raise his voice to make a point.

Strangely enough I've never been turned on by athletes. Just a "regular" body does it for me. I like men just an inch or two taller than me (5'2). Am I strange for liking short men?

Women: Hippie girls, like me! I love sitting up at three in the morning in a back booth at Denny's with a girlfriend just chatting away! :loveya:

126. wow, that's a very tough question.

I'm not even sure I could give a meaningful answer to that one.

All I really know is that "I know it when I see it" :)

127. I've got a huge crush on
one of my college instructors. She's such a total geek and not conventionally good looking, but I don't know, I just like everything about her. She's a great teacher too, very smart but not pretentious. She's 29, I'm 21, that's not too much of a stretch, is it?

On another note, I've been noticing a lot more girls have been smiling my way recently, although I figure that's because of the Kerry/Edwards button I wear. John Edwards is a chick magnet, after all.
