22. Grass - XTC
"Shocked me too, the things we used to do
On Grass"

OK, it's meant to convey the feelings you had as a youngster lying in a field on a hot summer's day, but like so many other XTC lyrics, it's a double entendre.

26. Talking Viet Nam Potluck Blues - Tom Paxton
Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 03:37 PM by ParanoidPat
:smoke: I'm dating myself here. :hippie:

On Edit: Added lyrics as best I can remember them.

Now when I landed in Viet Nam
I hardly got to see Saigon
they shaped us up and called the roll
and off we went on a long patrol

Swapin' lies, swattin' flies, firin' the odd shot here and there

The Captain called a halt one night
and we had chow by the pale moonlight
a lovely dinner they'd planned for us
with a taste like a seat on a cross town bus

Some of the veterans left theirs layin' in the cans for the Viet Cong to find
Deadlier than a land mine!

Well after dinner someone told a joke
an' a couple of the fella's began to smoke
I took a whiff as the cloud rolled by
and my nose went up like an infield fly

Captain was a blond fella from Yale, he looked up at me and said,
"Now what's the matter with you baby?"

"Well I may be crazy but I think not
I'd swear to God that I smell pot!
But who'd have pot in Viet Nam?"

He said "What do you think you've been sitting on? These funny little plants,
thousands of 'em". Good GOD Almighty! PAAASSSSTURES OF PLENTY!

Well we all light up and by and by
the whole platoon was flying high
With the beautiful smile on the Captains face
he smelled like midnight on St. Marks Place

Cleaning his weapon, chanting the Hare Krishna.

Well the time had come as it comes to all
when I had to answer natures call
I was stumblin' 'round in a beautiful haze
when I met a little cat in black PJ's

Rifle, ammo belt, B.F. Goodrich sandles, he looked up at me and said,
"Now Wat's 'matta wit choo baby?"

He said, "we was campin' down the pass
and smelled you people blowin' grass
and since by the smell you're smokin' trash
I brought you a taste of a special stash,

Straight from uncle Ho's Victory Garden, we call it Hanoi Gold

So his squad and my squad settled down
passed some lovely stuff around
all too soon it was time to go
the Captain got on the radio,

He said, "Hello headquarters, we have met the enemy and he has been smashed!"

33. "That Acapulco Gold" by the Rainy Daze
Me and Martha took a honeymoon,
Below the border 'neath the silvery moon,
I was eighteen and she was twenty two,
Now we're just a-doin' what the young folks do

We're goin' south, south, to get that
Acapulco Gold
Ain't nothin' it can't fix,
Old dogs can learn new tricks,
When the streets are lined with bricks
Of Acapulco Gold.

Done in a sort of ragtag ragtime, jug band without a jug style.

I don't recall if it's by NOFX or Blink 182. The singer isn't annoying-sounding like Blink, so maybe it's NOFX. Fun song.

Edited on Fri Oct-08-04 03:27 PM by No2W2004
Flaming: Pink Floyd:

Alone in the clouds all blue
Lying on an eiderdown
yippie !
You can't see me, but I can you

Lazing in the foggy dew
Sitting on an Unicorn
No fear!
You can't hear me, but I can you

Watching buttercups come to light
Sitting on a dandelion
Too much!
I won't touch you, but then I might

Swimming through the starlit sky
Traveling by telephone
Hey-ho !
Here we go ever so hiiiiiiiiiiiiigh!

(break for typical psychedelic instrumental)

Alone in the clouds all blue
Lying on an eiderdown - yippie !
You can't see me, but I can you
