My car was vandalized last night
Someone smashed my side-view mirror while it was parked in front of my house. It looks like someone just intentionally broke it. Just the mirror is broken; the rest of it looks okay. I just put my DU sticker on my car last weekend. :(

1. Sure somebody didn't hit it?

3. There are no marks on the frame or on the car
I suppose it's possible, but it's kind of weird.

4. That exact same thing happened to our car a few months ago.
It ended up being some stupid neighborhood kids getting some cheap smashing thrills. They did it to many cars on the block. Thankfully their parents were good about it and turned them all in, the kids had to reimburse everyone to pay for the damages.

6. I'm glad they were caught and had to pay
Oddly, I was already taking my car in for a service tomorrow, so I can get it fixed right away. I would love to catch the creeps who did this - I had to merge onto 520 without my side mirror today! Bastards! :D

5. Was it the side facing the street? Not that it matters much if it was
but if it were the OTHER side, I would definitely suspect it to be vandalism based on your DU sticker. I'm very glad I have a garage... I'm sure I would have been vandalized by now. Sorry that happened.

7. It's stupid, but I do have a garage, I just never use it
I'm lazy and always end up parking in front. I looked all over, and there was absolutely no other damage to the car, including the casing for the mirror. I suppose it's possible that someone had something sticking out of their vehicle that just happened to hit the glass on the mirror. Volvo parts are never cheap. :(

12. That was going to be my second question... if there's no damage to the...
casing, then this was definitely vandalism.

8. So sorry sweetie!
We definitely use our garage where we are. Seattle's such a liberal haven, I probably wouldn't use mine if I lived there either.

You're such a liberal! You live in Seattle (ergo probably drink enough coffee to power a small city), drive a Volvo. What else do we need to know about you?

:D

9. Funny, I don't drink coffee!
But I do wear Birkenstocks, so the two cancel one another out. ;)

Not only do I live in Seattle, I live in the most liberal part of Seattle (Capitol Hill). I'd like to think it was a random accident where the person didn't leave a note. Still it seems odd that there was no other damage to the car, as if someone hit it. :(

10. My whole car was stolen when I lived in San Fran
Just woke up one day & it was gone... what a terrible feeling...

It showed up a week later completely stripped & I had no insurance.

Not that this is of any consolation whatsoever, just thought I'd share my car vandalism story.

I know it sucks... yup, it really really sucks.

I'm sure you'll be glad when this year is over.

13. The side mirror of my parents' car got broken 3 times in one month!
It turned out to be idiot drivers who go through our narrow street (speed limit 30 km/h - around 20 mph I think or less) at more than double that speed. They kept breaking off the side mirror facing the street and just driving on.

I eventually fantasized about building in some sort of alarm/exploding mechanism triggered by breaking it off... never came to fruition though.

Rather glad I live in a country where they don't regularly smash your car up for displaying political preferences...
