Brits sell Canada a used submarine.......Sub catches fire on way home...
Sorry Canada - perhaps you might like to invest in some slightly newer technology?

"High winds and heavy seas are hampering efforts to rescue a Canadian submarine drifting without power 120 miles off the Irish Republic's north-west coast...

The accident happened as the submarine was travelling to Canada after being officially handed over to its new owners by the Royal Navy on Saturday...

A Canadian Navy spokesman said the sailors were "getting tossed to and fro something crazy." "

Well, I suppose they've got to kill time somehow?

1. It seems par for the course
Our Sea King Helicopters are, like 50 years old (ha, ha). We like our military traditional - horses, muskets, shields, suits of armour etc.

7. Hehe..
When I was in Toronto in March 2002, the big news story (after the 6 month anniversary of 9/11) was how some Canadian submariners had managed to partially flood one of their newly purchased UK-surplus submarines by pressing the wrong button.

The Canadian Navy spokesman made all sorts of excuses, including saying that the British were used to tinkering with gadgets but that North Americans preferred things to be simple. He even likened it to early British Sportcars vs modern American ones, the former requiring you to be mechanically competent.

8. ...the latter requiring you to be a fuckwit with bad taste......

Heh heh heh....

Sorry, it's just we prefer our sports cars to be streamlined and elegant, rather than a cheap plastic brick with a big engine.

9. Yes, but when your elegant sportscar breaks down--again--
you're stranded on the roadside.

A submarine in trouble can leave you in quite a pickle!

10. Mmmmmmm.....pickle......
To be fair, the legend goes that if you own a Ferrari / Maserati you'll spend your entire life wandering around it with a bit of plastic in your hand, wondering where it fell off from.

Porsches are good for reliability and speed, but a bit on the bulbous side.

I once had an Alfa Romeo badge, but the car rusted off it......

To be fair again, classic US sports cars are pretty damn sweet, even if their brakes don't work and they can't go round corners.

The Corvette Stingray is a beauty....
