Here's the Almiqui - a Cuban rodent long thought to be extinct, but recently rediscovered.

On edit: It's not a rodent. It's a rodent-like mammal called a solenodon.

1. wow.
Weird nose for rodent,he's got a nasty set of teeth. If he bites that'll hurt.
Should we slip an angry Almiqui in bush's pants before the debate?
Castro would laugh.I would laugh too.

a stuffed one from a museum. But the species has been confirmed, this year, as still being alive.

On edit: Further research shows it's not a rodent. It's a solenodon - related to only one other mammal found on Hispaniola.

11. Its forelegs are longer than its hindlegs, too.
Damn! A sure candidate for mammal that most looks like an alien species.

17. How about those Bongos?

The bongo is the largest and heaviest forest antelope. These spiral-horned creatures are found only in special dense forest habitats across tropical Africa. The East African bongo is larger than its West African counterpart. Beautiful creature, isn't it?
