Smarmy Republican I know plans to register to vote day before election
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 12:40 PM by SemiCharmedQuark
Im going to see him tonight. He's been telling everyone he's just going to register the day before the election. Big time Bush supporter and thinks Reagan is the greatest guy who ever lived. Called F911 "pack of lies" etc. etc. etc. Im going to see him tonight when I pick up my husband from work...should I tell him that there's a deadline to register? He's er..a hard one to explain. My husband likes him, but the guy's a jerk. He is always threatening to "kick you in the nuts" (Freeper level humor-he's 22). So what should I do? I know what I should do...I should tell him that he has a deadline. Everyone has the right to vote....grumble grumble grumble. I'll tell him but I ain't happy about it.

Anyone have similar situations?

On Edit: Also a Mega Dittohead. Once we were at a party and we were talking about gross things, so I said "Rush Limbaugh naked" and he gets all flary-nostrilled "HEY! I LIKE RUSH!"

26. We don't want him to vote. Are you nuts?
I am less worried about him being an idiot then voting. And we have no obligation to eduacte such a person. Let the repukes do it! And personally, His vote should be suppressed. Not by taking his rights away but no harm in discouraging, by ommission, pro Bushies from voting. Again, it it to our benefit if they don't vote! Don't lie. omit!

3. Just tell'em what I tell'em: Do what you have to do.
He has a right to vote, but he also has a duty to be informed, that's not your job. Don't mention the deadline.

4. You're not supressing his vote at all if you don't tell him
Edited on Sat Sep-25-04 12:41 PM by Rabrrrrrr
It's his choice to remain ignorant of the process. And sounds like it might be a good lesson for him to learn he isn't the world's smartest man.

if it were me, I don't think I'd tell him.

Besides, how do you know he isn't planning on registering the day before this year's election for the election next year. Maybe he's already registered for this year.

7. Of course 9-11 was a pack of lies. Moore let Bush and his thugs speak for
themselves. So, technically, it was packed with lies. Lies told by Bush and his thugs.

9. don't tell him...
Again, it is his responsibility to figure somethings out on his own. You aren't surpressing his vote, his own stupidity is. Why is he telling everyone he is waiting til the day before. Does he think that is going to throw a (ditto) monkey wrench in the Kerry campaign?? Actually, come to think of it, you should tell him there is a deadline, just a day or two after it passes. Say something like "oh, did you get registered to vote?? I heard the deadline was yesterday. I bet rush would be proud". ...Kevin.

Oh, and no more of the rush nekkid imagery, that will cost me two sessions with my therapist. :)

11. A guy who threatens to "kick you [a female] in the nuts"
has gotta make you wonder about his basic level of intelligence, not to mention human anatomy. As I always say when I hear about blatantly ignorant people, who betray their ignorance by their actions: Gosh, I hope they haven't reproduced themselves.

If he asks you directly what the voter reg. deadline is, you could tell him. Otherwise, you might wanta give this one a pass.

DEFEAT BUSH!!

He's been saying he didn't need to vote last time, mandate by the people for Bush :eyes: But that the lunatic left is at it again this election. And he didn't vote in the primaries because he doesn't know diddly about local elections just Bush and Bush was a given.

21. No, he hasn't voted before
I guess this election he just feels he's got to do his Republican duty and screw the country just a little harder by getting Bush reelected.
Here's how I found out what was going on. My hsuband and I were shopping and I was talking about my day and how on DU people were discussing that many states have voter registration ending next week. And my husband goes "That's weird, Dan says that he'll just register the day before the election. He says that as long as you are registered before THAT DAY you are fine. Chris (a democrat) said he was going to register today and Dan said that he was busy but he'd just register the day before the election since he had booked the day off"

13. If he's dumb enough not to know that there's a deadline, he's not
smart enough to know how to vote. Biggest hints, he listens to Rush, loves George W. Bush, doesn't realize how gay saying "Hey, I like Rush" after somebody says anything about a naked Limbaugh.

So, don't add to our misery. Remember, Rush didn't get registered to vote until it was too late to vote for Reagan, his Idol.

You could ask him the day after the election, "Hey, did you know that there's a deadline to register to vote? You didn't? Did they let you vote?" If he doesn't know about a registration deadline, he probably wouldn't know anything about provisional voting either.

You guys rock. You're right, if he asks I'll say something. But otherwise not. He won't ask either. He knows Im a leftist and he tries to avoid me at all costs, which I don't mind at all.

He claims to know so much about politics he's going to look like a big ass when they ask him who he voted for and he's going to have to say those leftist bastards didn't let him vote because he missed the deadline.

19. By all means TELL HIM! (on October 5th)
.....From the Indiana Voter Registration form page 1,

Registration Deadlines: In order to be processed for the next election, this application must be postmarked or hand delivered to your county voter registration office no later than 29 days before the next election. If your county registration office receives this application after that day, you will be unable to vote in the next election. If you miss this deadline, your registration application will be processed when registration reopens. Some military voters and their family members can register until noon on election day. Contact your county voter registration office for information if you may qualify to do so.

My best friend just moved from Illinois to Phoenix, she's a repuke and we avoid discussing politics, although I do feed her updates on the draft (two daughters of draft age, she is worried.)

Anyway, no way in hell am I going to remind her to change her registration or even mention the election. Hopefully she'll forget.

He has chosen to be stupid .Let him live with it.One less vote for Bush. We have an obligation to not only register voters who will vote for Kerry, but take advantage of any situation where there will be one less vote for Bush. We don't need to enthusiasticly support opposition voting. That is why you give a registration form to a Reug when asked and actually hand in the Dem Let them take care of themselves! Not our jOb!

32. Well,
if he thinks he's so informed, I would ignore him. Telling him there is a deadline is something the smarmy guy should already know. If he's such a know-it-all, it's up to him to be less ignorant of voting things, such as deadlines and other information. I wouldn't bother to tell him. But I know what you mean about everyone should be out voting. It just wouldn't mean anything to me to just have him find out on his own. It'll be his loss for his completely inappropriate behavior.
