Well, I found out last week that I'd lose my temp job this Friday. It's annoying, as I really like working here and it's convenient for where I live with my girlfriend. Unfortunately, my visa dictates that I have to move jobs after 3 months.

I moaned about it on DU on Friday, but within 30 minutes I'd got another job. My boss emailed everybody he could think of to try to find me another job.....What a gem! Someone (a rival company) came back with a resounding YES! So now I have a new job.

The problem?.....

Well, it's 3 HOURS drive away, so I'll have to go and stay there during the week, sleeping in my van on a campsite.....for no extra money........However, luckily my girlfriend agrees that it's better that I'm away earning money than at home spending it, but I just can't believe that I can't find a temporary office job within 3 hours of my home!

It will only be for 2 months and I know that people are a lot worse off than me, so I am grateful.....and I've had a CD player installed in the van at last, so I can listen to tunes on the journey to work and back each week...

I missed the response to my lest message, I'm still on UK time, so I had left for the day and didn't know you'd got something so quickly. So at least you can keep up with the posting.

Are you in Western Australia? It is a couple of years since I was out there, but I really liked Perth and that coast. Much better than the "18-21" party route up the east coast. Mind you I liked the places and the aussies, I just though the backpacker scene was a bit full on and false some of the time.

You're boss must really like you, especially to set you up with a rival company. I think it would be hard to live in a van for two months, though. How is it set up? Do you have a bed? Will you have to eat out all of the time?

8. It's kinda a dry-run.......

Me and the girlfriend will be taking the van around Australia in 2 months time, so this is useful practise.

It's got a decent mattress and various camping-type accessories, including a gas stove.

It will be a pain in the arse, but I'll stay at a campsite and it should be bearable, if lonely and boring....

It also means that I will be spending my birthday by myself in a van in the middle of nowhere.....

13. Some idiot just ran amok this morning

and got to about 40 or 50 posts in less than an hour. If I remember correctly, it was something about how Bush was turning Clinton's recession around and jobs would be returning soon.

Not sure how that would have helped you in Australia, but since when did Freepers make sense?
